Signs December 1 - the day of Roman and Plato

On this day we carefully watched natural phenomena, because it was believed that today it was possible to determine what the weather would be like in winter.

In the church on December 1, the memory of the holy martyrs Roman and Plato, who suffered for their faith in the IV faith, is honored. It is known that Plato was the brother of the martyr Antiochus - together they were born into a family of pious Christians and received an excellent upbringing, after which they began to preach Christianity literally at the beginning of their youth. In particular, Plato very often met with pagans and talked with them in order to convert them to faith.

This happened during the reign of Emperor Agrippina, who was distinguished by intolerance towards adherents Christian teaching. It is not surprising that he ordered the arrest of Plato and held a trial at which he demanded that the preacher renounce his beliefs. Plato refused to do this, for which he was tortured and killed.

In addition, on December 1, the memory of Saint Roman, who accepted martyrdom along with the youth Varul, is venerated. This happened during the persecution organized against Christians by Emperor Maximilian. Roman himself at that time was a deacon in the city of Caesarea and one day met an eparch going to a pagan holiday.

Then Roman began to convince him to renounce his faith, after which he refused to do so and betrayed the preacher a large number torture. Varul, who was also a Christian, passed by and could not stay away. Then he was also captured and tortured along with Roman.

It is interesting that in Rus' they prayed to martyrs for material well-being. Therefore, in the morning before starting any work, they certainly went to church, because they believed that after that there would be money in the family.

At this time, on December 1, they were no longer working in the fields, but the peasants knew what to do with themselves. For example, various crafts were common, and in particular, wood carving. Khokhloma, Dymkovo toys, and bone carving flourished.

The peasants were also engaged in the manufacture of dishes, tiles, and tiles, and they used special equipment for this. When making dishes, they used linden, which was easily polished and bent. Ancestors believed that the linden tree could protect a person from evil spirits.

Years of life of Sergei Kirov:

born March 27, 1886, died December 1, 1934

Epitaph

"Parting! Sorrowful word!
A silent dark body.
It's harsh from the heights of Leningrad
The cold sky looked out.
And silently, without thunder and singing,
All three fighting generations
On that day, an endless crowd
We passed, parting with you.”
Nikolai Zabolotsky, from the poem “Farewell” in memory of Kirov

Biography

Now, after years, it is difficult to judge how correct the views of Sergei Kirov were, but one thing is certain - he was a talented revolutionary who sincerely believed in the correctness of his political position. The biography of Sergei Kirov is the life story of a man who, from a child living in an orphanage, grew up to become an important statesman, who became a close friend of Joseph Stalin himself. Kirov’s life was cut short by a brutal murder, the motives and causes of which, as well as the real customers, are still unknown.

Sergei Kirov was born in the city of Urzhum, Vyatka province, and was left without parents back in early childhood. When Seryozha was seven years old, his grandmother, who was unable to feed her three grandchildren, sent the boy to an orphanage. After the shelter and school, Kirov entered college, where he studied well, for which he was sent to the Kazan Mechanics and Technical School. While still in Urzhum, he met political exiles who influenced his views young man. He began to read illegal literature, have conversations with exiles, establish connections with student revolutionaries, and look for like-minded people. So it is not surprising that in 1905 he was among those who took part in an armed demonstration in Tomsk - in response to the January events in St. Petersburg. Then it began revolutionary activity- a new, complex and bright page in Kirov’s biography.

Years of arrests, exiles, escapes, accusations followed, and at the same time Kirov’s revolutionary preparations continued. In 1917, Kirov took part in the revolution, and soon Kirov's career began as a party worker: chairman of the revolutionary committee in Astrakhan, member of the Caucasus Bureau, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, first secretary of the Leningrad Provincial Committee, etc. Kirov moved to St. Petersburg and settled in a fashionable house on Kamennoostrovsky Prospekt with his second wife, Maria Lvovna Marcus. Stalin valued Kirov very much - when the accusation of collaborating with the “left-bourgeois press” was brought against Kirov, it was thanks to the support of Joseph Vissarionovich that Kirov was acquitted.

Kirov was killed on December 1, 1934, right in one of the corridors of Smolny, where he worked, by a certain Leonid Nikolaev. The cause of Kirov's death was three fatal shots to the head. During the investigation into the circumstances of Kirov's death, Stalin was merciless - almost the entire family of Kirov's killer was repressed, the closest family members were shot. It was never possible to determine Nikolaev’s true motives - perhaps there were conspirators behind him, or maybe this unbalanced man was simply obsessed with jealousy because of rumors about Kirov’s affair with the killer’s wife. One way or another, this crime led to whole line arrests, deaths and repressions.

Kirov's funeral took place five days after his death. Kirov's grave, or rather the urn with his cremated ashes, is located in the Kremlin wall.

Episodes of life

Sergei Kirov had a daughter from his first wife, who died shortly after the birth of the girl. It’s amazing how Evgenia, the daughter of Sergei Mironovich, repeated her father’s fate. Mom died, and her father was so busy with party affairs that he sent the girl to an orphanage, where she grew up. After Kirov’s death, his second wife, who was also seriously ill and had no children of her own, did not want to take Zhenya with her. During the Great Patriotic War this girl, who did not know her father, became the only female commander of a tank company.

Stalin and Kirov had a warm relationship; there is still no evidence that Stalin was somehow involved in the murder of Kirov - despite similar assurances from Nikita Khrushchev. Stalin's wife recalled how, after Kirov's funeral, Stalin sadly said: “I thought that Kirych would bury me, but it turned out the other way around.”
