Special provisions planets in Zodiac Signs

“...what is above is identical to what is below”

Hermes the Thrice Greatest.

Special positions of planets in Zodiac Signs are those positions in which the planet “unevenly” manifests its properties. When considering a horoscope, the special positions of the planets are usually considered when it is necessary to find out the strengths and most vulnerable qualities of a person, his hidden potential and unmanifested complexes, study it life goals and evolutionary program.

To do this, first of all, it is important to understand why, for example, a specific planet is the ruler of a specific sign, and a specific sign is the abode of this particular planet.

In my lectures, I explain astrological terms that are difficult to understand with visual and simple analogies from life. For example, what is a horoscope? A horoscope is a curriculum for life. The studies themselves take place in educational institution called Earth. Zodiac signs are objects, horoscope houses are audiences, planets are teachers, aspects are accents in an in-depth study of a particular subject.

Just like in any school on Earth, learning occurs on an increasing scale. From basic knowledge to a more complex educational level. In individual curriculum of every person living on Earth, this dynamic is described Special positions of the planets.

There are four types of basic planetary positions that are easy to remember if you imagine an equilateral cross placed in the zodiac circle. Fall, Exile, Exaltation and Abode. The first level of knowledge is the Fall, the second level is Exile, the third is Exaltation and the fourth level is the Abode. To better understand these terms, I will draw an analogy with the evolution of man in a sports career.

A fall.

Imagine the beginning of the sports career of a future athlete: parents bring their child to a certain sports section, for example, to a boxing section. The child still doesn’t know how to do anything, he has neither physical strength nor striking power, no knowledge of defense and attack techniques, no experience of competitions, etc. In fact, this is the very beginning of the path to gaining experience on Earth. This position is called By falling.

Conventionally, we will call this position a beginner. The position of a planet in Fall is the position of a beginner in sports section, in which accomplished athletes train at the same time as him, and honored champions and coaches share their experience with him. In fact, the Fall is the beginning of the learning path, when the native has no, or very little, knowledge in the subject (Zodiac Sign), life experience on the topic “planets are teachers.”

What are the main training tasks the coach sets for the newcomer? Complex techniques fist fight, many hours of exhausting drive excess weight, preparation for the World Cup, etc.? No. Before learning techniques hand-to-hand combat First, you should pump up your muscles and stretch your joints, gain flexibility in your ligaments, etc. In short, this is strengthening your general physical fitness.

By the way, how far the student has progressed in his education is shown by the degree of the planet in the Zodiac Sign. The further the planet is from the beginning of the Sign, the more people acquired knowledge on this subject.

For example, Mars is in Fall in Cancer. What lesson is required here? Zodiac sign Cancer is responsible for security, physical survival, preservation of the family, and the Motherland. Cancer's motto is “My home is my castle.” The planet Mars is responsible for belligerence, struggle, expansion. Why does Mars fall into the sign of Cancer? Because here he is forced, so to speak, to cool his ardor. It turns out that a person does not have the energy and physical strength to attack, advance and seize territories. But he can well protect those and what is dear to him. To prove itself, Mars here is forced to wait until they attack and only then rush into battle.

What heights a person has reached in protecting his homeland, home, family, etc., is shown by the degree in which Mars stands. If he is in the first degrees of Cancer, then the person still needs to learn to master the power of this warlike planet. If at the end of the sign, then we can say that this is a veteran who already has a single battle behind him.

By the way, Mars in Cancer is manifested in many boxers who, in order to achieve victory in a fight, have chosen a certain psychological motivation for themselves. A necessary condition In order to fully demonstrate their fighting qualities, it is very important for them to realize that they are defending their homeland, home, family. That is, there should be good reason in order to include the power and energy of Mars.

And Alexander Povetkin, for example, before a fight listens to an audio track about Russia and imagines that he is a defender of his country and, inspired by this knowledge, goes into battle.

So, the special position of the planet in the Fall is an indicator of a lack of strength and knowledge. The elaboration of this situation consists, first of all, in gaining strength, and secondly, in gaining the experience of the manifestation of this planet in the Sign of its Fall. By studying the place of the Fall of the planet, you can understand the hidden complexes, the accumulated negative experience of a particular soul and where there is a clear lack of strength.

If a planet in Fall is in the signs of Exaltation or Abode, this helps it to some extent block negative manifestations.

Fictitious planets have Fall signs.

Exile.

As you go life lessons(training in the section), a person gains strength. He gains flexibility and begins to learn the first techniques of combat. But, since he is still a junior and does not know exactly how to use his unexpectedly acquired strength, at times he shows it inharmoniously, either too much or too little. This period of youthful agility, when a person is not yet allowed to take part in championship fights, since there is obviously a strong opponent. But he already really wants to test the strength of his blow on someone who is obviously weaker than himself. The main tasks of the trainer at this stage of training are to develop moral standards of behavior (by analogy with the code of honor for a warrior), and as spiritual growth his pupil, in revealing to him more and more complex and effective techniques martial art.

Let's look at the Sun, which is in Exile in the sign of Aquarius. Usually, a person with such a position is drawn to stand out in some way, to become the center, to attract attention. But, if for the sign of Leo being in the center is a natural position, then for Aquarius, who is “responsible” for universal equality, freedom and brotherhood, the desire to be in the center of something turns into a farce, pretentiousness and absurdity. That is, there is energy and desire to stand out, but there is no experience and knowledge to do this as harmoniously as possible.

For example, some women with the Sun in Aquarius often experience a clear overuse of cosmetics, jewelry and bright outfits that do not fit well with each other. Somehow, an indelible impression was made on me by a lady whom I took for a clown, she was dressed so eccentrically. Imagine my surprise when it turned out that this arrogant lady occupies a serious position, and did not come to this event in order to amuse anyone.

Well, don’t forget that many manifestations depend on the degree in which the Sun is located. The closer it is to 30 degrees, in our case, the sign of Aquarius, the calmer man relates to his place in society, the more modesty and inner dignity he shows. By the way, the more successful he is in expressing himself in creativity.

So, the special position of the planet in Exile- this is an indicator of a decent presence of force and, at the same time, a noticeable lack of knowledge about it effective application. Working through this situation involves acquiring knowledge and a moral core.

By avoiding working on these two positions of the planets, as a rule, a person develops deep psychological complexes inferiority, which, sooner or later, lead to physical and mental illnesses.

Therefore, the conclusion is that we must work, gain strength and experience, despite reluctance and difficulties. Each of us has our own cross, which was given to us from above, and which we are capable of, and we are obliged to bear it and become strong, i.e. go to the next level - Exaltation!

Exaltation.

The third stage of training is an accomplished athlete who has sufficient strength and knowledge to win all kinds of sports tournaments. This is the path of a champion who, from stage to stage, takes higher and higher championship titles. This is the path of a triumphant warrior - a winner.

The exaltation of a planet (elevator) is considered to be the sign in which it can develop its properties to the maximum. This shows, so to speak, an excess of power, additional creative energy that the planet can use for its qualitative transformation.

A planet in Exaltation shows a person the vector of his development, what he can achieve if he makes certain efforts on a constant basis. That is, it must be clearly understood that a planet in Exaltation does not have a “cumulative effect”! As soon as a person stops working in the direction indicated to him, the energy and forces associated with the planet in Exaltation are taken away.

For example, consider the Exaltation of Mars in Capricorn.

The sign of Capricorn is responsible for determination, careerism, achieving goals, willpower and asceticism. Mars is courage, belligerence, ambition and courage. Why is Mars naturally exalted in Capricorn? Because here his energetic expansion, strength and fieryness are supported by will and desire for victory. A person, adhering to the vector of development that Mars shows him while in Capricorn, becomes a practically invincible warrior. To reach the intended peaks, he can endure for a long time, deny himself something, but steadily move forward.

Depending on what degree of Capricorn Mars is in, you can see that a person either moves forward in jerks, rolling back each time, or, gritting his teeth, does not stop in his movement, stubbornly and systematically conquering peak after peak.

The exaltation of planets is in only one zodiac sign.

Fictitious planets have signs of Exaltation.

Abode.

Sooner or later, any champion retires. And this position is called the Abode.

I call this position - coach. Yes, to enter the ring, health and reaction are no longer the same, but experience, respect and honor are deserved and guaranteed. This is a situation when you no longer want to prove anything to anyone. Yes, everyone around already knows that this man has already proven everything to everyone many times, he is a great and multiple champion of all competitions in the past!

Thus, the Abode of the planet is considered to be the Sign in which the planet is manifested as harmoniously and naturally as possible.

At the same time, a planet may be in another Zodiac sign, but if the sign of its Abode is filled with planets, then the main manifestation is still read on the planet in the Abode. If a planet is not in a sign friendly to it, disharmony and its weakened energy, as a rule, are transferred to the sign of its Abode.

The Sun and Moon each have one Abode, and the planets have two – day and night. The Day Abode promotes the manifestation of external, bright, active qualities. The Night Abode helps to manifest inner world, hidden qualities and aspirations.

For example, the daytime Abode of Pluto is the sign of Scorpio, and the nightly Abode is Aries.

Some Zodiac signs include two planetary rulers (despositors).

Fictitious planets do not have Abodes.

Exaltation and Abode are indicators of innate talents that should be used and increased. This is compensation for great work in past incarnations. Between these extremes there are several less powerful transitional levels, which I will discuss in subsequent chapters of this book. In the meantime, I will display the characteristics described above in the form of a table and graph.

The article provides short review astrological concept of “exaltation” and “fall” of planets in the signs of the Zodiac. Examples of theoretical and esoteric explanations of the symbolism of an ancient astrological idea are given.

What is “exaltation” and “fall” of planets?

Exaltation is the sign of the Zodiac in which the properties of the planet are most manifested.

Fall, which is also sometimes called phallus, occurs in the zodiac sign opposite to exaltation.

For example, it is believed that in a person's horoscope, a planet in exaltation shows that the characteristics inherent in that planet are strong and well developed in the person. Thus, during the movement of the planet through the sign of exaltation or decline, the effect of an increase or decrease in its influence on the subject is observed.

In physiology, exaltation (from Late Lat. exaltatio- “rise”) is called a state increased excitability, which occurs in nerves or muscles following the refractory period. Refractoriness (from French. refractaire- “unresponsive”) is the absence or decrease in excitability. Physiological rhythms, changes in increased and decreased excitability, are symbolically correlated with the rhythms solar system- astrological exaltations and falls of the planets, the Sun and the Moon.

In esoteric astrology, transmitted by Alice Bailey, exaltation and fall (as well as control and banishment) are considered symbols of the influences of energy pouring into the formal nature of man (personality), meeting or not meeting resistance, awakening a response or not.

The state of exaltation itself, as a personality characteristic, is associated in astrology with the planet Uranus. One of the reasons for this is that Uranus is the first planet behind Saturn, the planet of limitations. Therefore, going beyond normal limits will be a Uranian manifestation.

History of the system

The oldest known concept of exaltation appears in Babylon. Astrologer S. Fagan suggested that the first concept appeared in 786 BC, the year of the construction of the temple to the god of wisdom and writing, Nabu. Perhaps in that year the planets rose simultaneously with the Sun in the signs and degrees of their exaltations.

The entire history of the emergence of astrology is built largely on conjectures and assumptions and does not yet have a clear answer. Does the concept of exaltation have a random origin? What if the construction of the temple had happened a year earlier? or later? Wouldn't all the concepts of exaltation then become like tailoring to a predetermined result?

Among great scientists there is a very common point of view (which was held, for example, by Johannes Kepler) about Divine the origin of astrology. If we take it as a starting point, then the history of the emergence of the system of exaltations can be described in the following way: first the acquisition of ideas, then the construction of concepts. Is it possible that in 786 BC? was the idea given by god to Nabu?

Table of “exaltations” and “declines” of the planets, the Sun and the Moon

Zodiac sign Planet in exaltation Planet in fall
Aries Sun Saturn
Taurus Moon Uranus
Twins
Cancer Jupiter Mars

Virgo Mercury Venus
Scales Saturn Sun
Scorpion Uranus Moon
Sagittarius
Capricorn Mars Jupiter
Aquarius
Fish Venus Mercury

The following “exalting pairs” are formed:

  • Sun-Saturn
  • Moon-Uranus
  • Mars-Jupiter
  • Venus-Mercury

In a sign in which one of the paired planets is exalted, the second one “falls”, and vice versa. Exalted pairs of planets are different from pairs of mutual rulers of the Zodiac signs with a characteristic change of “partners”.

There is still no consensus among astrologers about the signs of the Zodiac in which Pluto and Neptune are exalted. About Uranus, the third of the higher (trans-Saturnian) planets, there is a consensus that it is exalted in Scorpio. It is also a very common belief that Neptune is exalted in Cancer, in the same place as Jupiter.

However, there is no complete agreement about Neptune. For example, D. Llewelyn believed that Neptune is exalted in Leo. And S. Vronsky described a peculiar system of control-exaltation of planets, taking into account their retrograde, and in this system Pluto is exalted in Leo, and Neptune is exalted in Aquarius. Some astrologers write simply about the signs of exaltation of Neptune and Pluto: not yet determined.

According to the most common point of view, in Gemini, Leo, Sagittarius, Aquarius, no planet is exalted or debilitated. From the point of view of esoteric astrology, that is, the astrology of the soul, this has its own symbolic meaning: such zodiac signs are considered as signs of balance; it is necessary to achieve harmony in them and avoid all extremes.

  • Sun - 19° Aries
  • Moon - 3° Taurus
  • Mercury - 15° Virgo
  • Venus - 27° Pisces
  • Mars - 28° Capricorn
  • Jupiter - 15° Cancer
  • Saturn - 21° Libra
  • Northern lunar node— 3° Gemini
  • South Node - 3° Sagittarius

Examples of explanations of the concept of exaltation

In some cases, visual explanations of exaltation are available. For example, Saturn is the planet of justice, so it is exalted in Libra, the sign of balance. However, not everything is so obvious, and questions arise, for example, why is the planet of action Mars not exalted in Sagittarius, the sign of determination? After all, even their graphic icons are similar. Or why Mercury both rules the sign of Virgo and is exalted in it? Why is he not additionally exalted in a favorable state for the mind? air element Gemini, which he also rules? What general principle, which makes it possible to see a complete and, what must be, a highly remarkable picture of astrological relationships?

One of the classics of modern astrology, Alan Leo, says the following about exaltation:

“There are many explanations as to the cause of these exaltations. The best explanation is based on the esoteric idea that the planets correspond to principles. The Sun, the ruler of the heart, life and vitality, is exalted in Aries from the point of view of illumination: Aries, the ruler of the head, is illuminated by the presence of the Sun in this sign. The Moon, which rules the etheric double and the wandering and changeable influence, will be exalted in Taurus due to the fixed and earthly nature of this sign."

It turns out to be a very unobvious and interesting correspondence between planets and signs. The changeable Moon corresponds to the fixed Taurus, so it is exalted in an environment suitable for itself. I wonder what graphic image The horns of Taurus contain a symbol of the exaltation of the nascent Moon.

The interpretation of the exaltation of the Sun in Aries symbolically reflects esoteric ideas about how a person gains Enlightenment, about how the mind is illuminated by the Light of Divine Wisdom. The Sun, signifying the life of the Spirit, reaches its full expression in Aries.

D. Rudhyar, in his article devoted to the exaltation of planets, considered the connection between exaltation and control from the point of view of the annual cycle, starting with winter solstice, correlating the exaltation of planets with a personal, subjective factor, and management with a collective one. Having thus built a “cycle of potentiality and subjectivity”, Rudhyar came to the conclusion that the place of exaltation of Mercury is Aquarius, Uranus - Gemini, Neptune - Leo, Pluto - Scorpio. However, this approach has not become widespread.

Some hermeneutical principles

To interpret and explain the concept of exaltation, principles such as considering the lower and higher aspect of the planet, as well as considering fall and exaltation as a single process, are used.

Consideration of the higher and lower aspect of the planet

This approach involves looking at it from two perspectives. Thus, the fall of a planet can be seen as a manifestation of its lower aspects, or negative characteristics (as opposed to exaltation, when the planet exhibits positive characteristics), but for a spiritually aspirated person the fall of a planet can be fall(disappearance) of everything base and vicious, liberation from the negative characteristics associated with a given planet. Thus, the “fall” of a planet in a person’s birth chart becomes a happy opportunity for the Uranian transformation of weakness into strength, of a lower aspect into a higher one.

For example, the fall of Jupiter in Capricorn:

“Jupiter in his lower aspect provides the fulfillment of desires and satisfies needs, while in his higher aspect he is the responsive expression of love, magnetically attracting to himself what is desired - this time, the good of the whole. Thus in Capricorn Jupiter reaches his lowest point of expression in the densest material aspect; when love and selflessness triumph, this lower aspect disappears. This symbolism refers to the “fall” of the lower aspect, and then to the fall, or disappearance, of everything base and vicious. When desire is uncontrollable, love is fallen and blind; when desire disappears, love triumphs"

Fall and exaltation as a single process

Planets in exaltation, exile, debilitation, considered interconnectedly, can symbolize phases spiritual path, along which a person moves through the signs of the Zodiac. In this case, fall and exaltation are a single process: hidden work a planet that has gone into “fall,” that is, deep into the zodiac sign, gives results in the opposite sign, when the exalted planet shows its maximum qualities.

In esoteric astrology, the example of Venus is considered, which “falls” in the sign of Virgo and is exalted in Pisces.

In Virgo, Venus, pure love-wisdom, symbol of the soul, “falls before birth” and “descends to earth,” symbolizing the gift of mind and divinity, and signifying the descent of the Christ principle for birth into matter. The spirit descends into the womb of the Virgin Mother, which symbolically corresponds to the fall of Venus in the sign of Virgo, when the planet seems to disappear from view and disappears into darkness.

In astrology, one of the symbols of Venus, as the ruler of the autumn equinox sign, Libra, is considered seed. The symbol of the seed has special significance in the Gospel. In the parables of the sower, of the grain (Matt. 13:3-32, Mark 4:2-32, Luke 8:4-15), the Kingdom of God is likened to the image of the seed: “What do we compare the Kingdom of God to? or what kind of parable will we depict it in?”(Mark 4:30).

In the sign of Virgo, the seed of the Divine Wisdom of Venus “falls” into the earth (Virgo is an earth sign) to germinate in the opposite sign - Pisces, where Venus is exalted. The Age of Pisces is the predecessor of the Age of Aquarius. Pisces is a sign of Christianity, a sign of the Savior. Jupiter, the ruler of Pisces, embodies the second Divine Aspect, God the Son. While in Virgo, Jupiter “diminishes” his influence (he is in “exile”), which esoterically means that the embryo of the Christ who is to come descends into the depths and remains temporarily hidden.

Virgo is the sixth sign of the Zodiac. This is interconnected with the entry in the Gospel: “In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to the city of Galilee, called Nazareth, to the Virgin”(Luke 1:26-27) and preached: “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a Son, and you will call His name Jesus.”(Luke 1:31). The sixth month, the sixth sign of the Zodiac, Virgo, is the time of the conception of Jesus, His symbolic birth in the cave of the human heart, to then become the Savior in Pisces.

Exploring symbols

Astrological symbols are inherently polysemous, which allows us to find and interpret the properties of the Zodiac in all manifestations of our lives. Numerous relationships between planets and zodiac signs are woven into a fabric, forming the pattern of life.

There is an opinion that the nonlinear perception of the Zodiac, when all the signs are not perceived as passing sequentially or separately, but present simultaneously and interconnectedly, helps to see a holistic picture in which all elements are organically connected.

As stated in esoteric astrology, the concept of control and exaltation can be correctly understood if its careful study is carried out widely, that is, not only from the point of view of the horoscope of the individual, but, with the correct correlation of the planets with the Seven Rays, in the wider perspective of the life of the soul .

The planets embody character traits, and 12 zodiac signs make it possible to obtain a complete typological set of 12 psychotypes. These features and properties of planets in one form or another are inherent to all people without exception. It is clear that each of the 12 zodiac signs (or 12 psychotypes) must also have all the planetary traits.

But the same trait in each psychotype, or sign, manifests itself differently. Thus, the aggressiveness and assertiveness of Mars in the fiery sign of Aries will differ from the family-oriented and maternal nature of Mars in the sign of Cancer (Mars is in its fall here). In this sign he is unlikely to be able to freely express his fiery nature: in water element fire turns into steam, and anger into resentment and irritability. Usually people with this position of Mars look for various ways compensation for your blocked energy: in best case scenario- they often move from place to place, constantly rearrange furniture in the house, love to make repairs, work as chefs in restaurants, and engage in wrestling. In the worst case, they take out their aggression on their neighbors: they break dishes, make scandals, and fight. In the body, Cancer rules the stomach, so if the Martian function is severely distorted, a person may become acidic and develop a stomach ulcer.

The fiery energy of Mars will manifest itself in a completely different way in the earthly sign of Capricorn (here Mars is in exaltation). Disciplined and organized Capricorn directs the energy of Mars towards a clearly defined goal and harnesses it to hard and constructive work.

An ancient tradition uses the following concepts: possession - exile, exaltation - fall, friendship - enmity.

The planet whose properties dominate in a given sign is called the “mistress”, and the corresponding sign is called the “abode” or “possession”. Each axis connects two poles, the sign opposite "possession" is called "exile". Through these aspects the sign can be described as a whole.

Let's try to break it down into specific example. Let's take the Aries - Libra axis. This is the first experience of tension between two opposite principles - male and female - and the search for unity between them.

Traditionally, Mars owns (is the lord of) the sign of Aries. Here his masculine energies manifest themselves naturally, in harmony with the character of the sign, this is his element, in it he is a Knight without fear and reproach, who serves To the beautiful lady. Who is this Lady? Venus. She owns (manages) opposite sign Libra, and in the sign of Aries is in exile. In Aries, the position of Venus is not manifested. This internal image, what K. Jung calls “anima”. This is an internal source creativity, inspiration. In the Middle Ages, this principle lived outside, as a service to the Beautiful Lady, because it understood that the opposite principle must be raised and understood, and only this can give completeness and integrity to existence.

In the monastery, the planet manifests its strong, stable qualities. But some qualities cannot be demonstrated at home. Sometimes you need to “leave home”, part with your usual way of life. We can say that exile is “leaving home”, an opportunity to find oneself, to be alone with oneself. A planet in exile forms inner side sign, is the hidden ruler.

Exiled Venus in Aries is also about the paths that we choose, there are 12 of them. And in Aries an internal existential choice is made. That is, Venus in Aries is an internal ruler who motivates Aries’ desire for beauty and justice, and achieving goals.

Exaltation- this is an elevation of the planetary function, a surge of qualities, but in a narrow range, since it is difficult to maintain strength (“loved so much that he did not notice how he strangled”). On the other hand, this is the force that shows the path of evolution of the sign. A planet in exaltation becomes brighter and more defined.

Abode (possession)- these are the initial, formative properties of the sign. And exaltation will show where development is going. From a socio-psychological point of view, this situation should give the most productive result. The monastery gives the sign initial potential, and exaltation gives the sign an incentive for development.

The Sun is exalted in Aries. If Mars in Aries acts spontaneously and impulsively, then the energy of the Sun is expressed through intention, that is, more consciously. Development should go in this direction, and this will give Aries maximum realization and constant creative energy. But it is also a desire to be in the center, to gain fame and fame.

A fall- this is a very difficult place to understand, very vulnerable, karmic, a place of anxiety and anxiety, what we want, what we strive for and what we are afraid of. Anxiety may be due to the fact that a person experiences a sense of separation (the point of self-awareness is in the past or future, but not in the present). Saturn is in its fall in Aries. And this is the fear of not reaching the top, the fear of one’s own meaninglessness. A person may have a permanent complex about this. But on the other hand, Saturn is a plan and a law, the ability to hear the voice of God, to carry it through oneself. Which is the Prophet's intention. A well-developed Saturn in Aries can give awareness of the direction and time of development, because this first zodiac sign stores all the information about the paths of development of the cycle.

The character of the planet and its strength are determined by its position in the sign, in which it acquires a certain color. Each planet in different signs your type of manifestation. First of all, you need to take into account the elements. Firstly, because it is easier to work with four objects than with twelve, and secondly, the elements provide a clear structure. What color does the fire element, for example, give us? What are the main characteristics of the action of a planet in signs? fire element? Activity. But simply saying “activity” is not enough. When talking about activity, it is necessary to take into account its type. The male type of activity is external, and the female type is internal. IN fire signs external activity and expressiveness are manifested. Each sign of the Zodiac influences the manifestations of the planet in its own way, but the principle of the planet does not change. So, Saturn remains Saturn, and symbolizes limitation and structure even when in Cancer.

Before moving on to the characteristics of planets in signs and elements, we need to remember the principle of interaction between planets and signs. The manifestation of the properties of planets depends on their position in the Zodiac. The signs in which the planets most fully manifest their qualities are the signs of the possession or abode of the planets. The zodiac sign is more complex than a planet, it is multidimensional, it has many layers, and several principles are manifested in it. But at the same time, we can take into account different degrees of consonance of planets and signs. And the strongest consonance ispossession, or, as it is also called, dominance, control. It means that the sign in question is most in tune with the planet.

1. Control or ownership

When a planet enters its sign possessions, all its qualities and strength are expressed as freely, fully and naturally as possible. During its passage through the sign of its ownership, the planet becomes most active and has the strongest influence on events. If the planet is at natal chart in a sign of his possession, a person will feel its influence more strongly, it will manifest itself more in his character and have noticeable effect for his life.

In the traditional ownership scheme for the seven septenary planets, each planet, except the Sun and Moon, has two signs:

Mercury owns Gemini and Virgo

Venus - Taurus and Libra

Mars - Aries and Scorpio

Jupiter - Sagittarius and Pisces

Saturn - Capricorn and Aquarius

The Sun owns the sign of Leo, the Moon owns the sign of Cancer.

The discovery required a change in the control scheme taking into account their actions. For each planet, its own sign of ownership was found. The sign of Aquarius was associated with Uranus, Pisces with Neptune, and Pluto took over Scorpio.

For the septenary planets that were the lords of these signs before the discovery higher planets, astrologers introduced the concept junior possession. The signs ruled by the planets are also divided into day and night abodes of the planets.

2. Expulsion or imprisonment of planets

Signs opposite to control are called signs exile planets, or imprisonment, or, as they also say, a sign damage (“detriment” - French - loss, damage). In this sign the planet is most unfree and weakest in showing its basic qualities.

Venus in Aries impulsive, active in the manifestation of her feelings, she does not have softness, delicacy, balance and pliability, as in Libra. She loses her tenderness and becomes too assertive.

Also Venus in Scorpio: losing its tenderness, softness, it turns from warm to hot, which is good for Mars, but bad for Venus. Tenderness develops into hot passion, and Venus loses her natural feminine qualities.

Mercury in Pisces loses its specificity, sociability, does not see details. Relying on intuition, it becomes more subjective when choosing.

Mercury in Sagittarius becomes too general, inattentive to details, numbers, dates.

U Mars in Libra there is no pressure and fighting qualities, independence and determination, there is no need for competition. It is difficult for him to take the initiative and lead.

Jupiter in Gemini there are many goals, it loses the unity, it is exchanged for little things, it does not have global coverage, large-scale. It is difficult for Geminis to separate the essential from the unimportant; they can simply drown in a huge flow of information.

Saturn in Cancer loses shape, flexibility, discipline, responsibility, unless, of course, this concerns issues of his family.

Uranus in exile in Leo. Leo is an individualist, he is a king, and the source of his energy is internal. Uranus is democratic, its function is to connect the minds of people and conduct an external, cosmic creative impulse.

Neptune in exile in Virgo. Virgo, with its concreteness, desire to clearly distinguish forms and qualities, practicality and purposefulness, is the opposite of Neptune - a contemplative planet, smoothing out differences, striving to remain itself.

Pluto in exile in Taurus. Taurus creates material forms and supports them with its energy, and Pluto transforms and destroys them. Taurus' individualism also prevents Pluto's true collectivism from manifesting, although Taurus often uses this strength for his own purposes.

3. Exaltation

The signs in which the action of the planets is strongest on the external level are called signs of planetary exaltation or signs of exaltation. Exaltation is the second most powerful concept after possession,it also connects the qualities of the planet and the sign, but the sign of exaltation does not have complete consonance with the planet. Exaltation is the strengthening of one manifestation of a planet, but the weakening of another, and the planet reaches its full manifestation only in the sign of its possession. According to the exact metaphor:

“A planet in exaltation is like an honored guest. In some situations, the guest of honor is in a better position than the owner of the house: the guest of honor is given the best of everything - he does not get leftovers from yesterday's dinner for lunch. But the power of this provision is limited: a guest cannot wander into the owner’s bedroom and start rummaging through his closet. The image of the guest of honor evokes a feeling of some exaggeration, exaggeration: we treat him better than he really deserves. This sense of exaggeration is important for a proper understanding of exaltation.”

Each planet has only one sign of exaltation, and not two, like a possession.

Sign of exaltation of the Sun is an Aries. Here the activity of the Sun, its impulsiveness, activity, strength manifest itself very powerfully. In the spring, when the Sun is in Aries, its life-giving power increases sharply. But in Aries another characteristic of the Sun weakens: Aries does not have that internal stabilitywhich the Sun in Leo has. For all its impulsiveness and activity, Aries is unstable, and the Sun is the balance, the center of everything.

Moon exaltation sign - Taurus. It maximizes the manifestation of the Moon’s fertility, her care for loved ones, her ability to bear children and create. Taurus is the gardener, the life-giving force of the Earth. However, with external softness, Taurus lacks internal plasticity, pliability, and with all the lunar sensitivity, it lacks the variability and responsiveness of the Moon; this side is expressed weaker here.

In Virgo it analytic skills are manifested most strongly, and the ability to interact, interconnect, and lightness are less. But in this sign the discriminating power of Mercury is very great.

Venus is exalted in Pisces. Here she is as sensitive, responsive, emotional, loving, and romantic as possible. But Pisces deprives Venus of its internal stability. Indeed, with all its external reactivity and softness, it is incredibly stable, since it has a very strong internal rod. But Pisces does not have such a core, therefore the ability to make choices and make accurate judgments is weakened in Pisces, while emotionality and attraction are strengthened.

Mars is exalted in Capricorn. Here he has maximum scope for practical implementation, for the peak of business activity. However, his ambition, willingness to take risks, impulsiveness, and innovation are weakened; in Capricorn, stable forms of manifestation are preferable.

Saturn is exalted in Libra. Saturn's sense of justice, sense of form, desire for balance in Libra are very well expressed, however, there is no Saturn isolation, rigidity, or logic.

If about signs of exaltation visible planets There are almost no disputes, but regarding the higher ones, there are quite a lot of disagreements. Almost all astrologers agree that Uranus is exalted in Scorpio. Uranus in Scorpio displays constructiveness, the ability to transform, polarization, and the desire for independence and freedom. Independence is a very characteristic quality for Scorpio. Uranus is Shiva, destroying forms and releasing spirit, and where, besides Aquarius, can this be done? Best of all - in Scorpio.

But the biggest debate is about the exaltation of Neptune and Pluto. Many astrologers adhere to the point of view that Neptune is exalted in Leo, and Pluto in Aquarius, but there is also a point of view about the exaltation of Neptune in Cancer.

4. Fall

Signs opposite to exaltation are signs in which the action of the planets is strongest on the internal level and weakest on the external - signs falls.

Mercury in Pisces is not analytical enough, loses its specificity, ability to clearly distinguish, detail, becomes blurry, dreamy, vague, although he sees the essence quite well.

Venus in Virgo very mobile, but her love is shallow. He hesitates for a long time, gets acquainted quickly, but on a deep level he carefully gets close to a person before he falls in love with him seriously. She is timid in her feelings, too rational, which once again confirms the strong influence of Mercury.

Mars in Cancer he sways for a long time, acts slowly, he lacks willpower, he is inactive.

Jupiter in Capricorn restrained, not self-confident enough, does not like to set too far-reaching goals for himself precisely because of uncertainty, often lowering his “ceiling.” His goals are too close, he is immersed in activity, is carried away by form and pays little attention to distant prospects.

Saturn in Aries tends to impose his will on others rather than discipline himself. Often inaccurate in time. Replaces action with pressure, loses the sense of form and balance.

Uranus fall in Taurus. Craving for material forms, rare life force Taurus deprives Uranus of its aspiration to Heaven. The strongest manifestation of Uranus in Taurus is ingenuity, especially in the creation of new tools and equipment

A special conversation about the Lunar Nodes.

According to tradition, the descending node is exalted in Sagittarius, and the ascending node is exalted in Gemini. The Descendant's fall is in Gemini, and the Ascendant's fall is in Sagittarius. Such a connection reflects the desire for something new, the lively perception characteristic of Gemini, as well as Sagittarius’ ability to generalize information.

The nodes have no signs of ownership, exile, kinship or enmity. The nodes cannot play the role of a ruler, so their interaction in this case differs from the interaction between sign and planet: we're talking about only about the peculiarities of the action of the nodes in these two signs, while the planet-sign connection also influences other planets in a given sign, as if through a sign uniting the planets with each other.

5. Determining the strength of a planet

The leading character traits of a person are his “planetary face”. To understand which character traits of a person are leading, to determine the most significant situations for him and the most important areas life, you need to determine which planet in the chart is stronger, and in the absence of the strong planet– their combination (two or three planets). Here we are talking about essential dignity, i.e. the position of the planets in signs, not in houses. The essential power of a planet in a sign speaks of its correspondence with its natural essence. The accidental dignity of a planet is determined by its position in the horoscope house, its aspects, speed and indicates the ability to solve one’s problems in the conditions of the horoscope house.

Leading influence or power comes from:

1. a planet that is in its sign;

2. as a sign of one’s exaltation;

3. the planet whose sign of ownership is the Sun;

4. the planet whose sign of ownership is the stellium;

5. a planet that is in the same sign as the Sun.
6. planet, sign manager Asc.
7. planet in conjunction with Asc, or in the 1st house.
8. planet in conjunction with the MC or in the X house.

Depending on the movement of transit planets, one or the other spheres of life situationally become more important for a person than others, while at a certain period certain spheres of the human psyche are activated. But the constant leading life stimuli and innate character traits are determined by the position of the planets, their strength and weakness.

6. Weakness of planets

There are essential (from the Latin essentialis - “essential”) and accidental (from the Latin accidentia - “accident”) weaknesses of the planets. The essential weakness of a planet speaks of its weak ability to correspond to its natural essence.

The accidental weakness of a planet is determined by its position in an unfavorable house, in weak position in the horoscope, its aspects and speed and reduces the planet’s ability to effectively implement its tasks. The concept of planetary weakness already existed in ancient astrology. Different astrologers have created different conventional scales for the relative assessment of the weakness of the planets.

The main essential weaknesses of the planets include:

1) expulsion;
2) fall;
3) position in the trine (II) of the opposite element (Enmity);
4) position in the decanate, term or sexture of a planet of opposite nature;
5) peregrine.

Nicholas Devore points out that the relative essential weakness of a planet was assessed on the following scale: planet in exile - 5 points; planet in decline - 4 points; planet in a trine of the opposite element - 3 points; a planet in the term of a planet of the opposite nature - 2 points, a planet in the decan or sexture of a planet of the opposite nature - 1 point.

4 When analyzing a birth chart, the planets in “possession” and “expulsion” require the most attention, the second - in “exaltation” and “fall”. However, if "possession" and "exaltation" are given importance in the study of astrology and literature great attention, then the planets of the lower level - in “exile” and “fall” - are clearly underestimated. In many situations, planetary properties that are in "exile" appear (to the outside observer) more noticeably than those that are in possession.

Examples of the manifestation of a planet in signs of possession and expulsion

Let's consider the manifestations of Mars. In Aries, his strong, energy-accumulated Martian properties rarely manifest themselves in the form of aggression, open confrontation, and rivalry. Aries himself is not inclined to devote these properties significant attention, just as a very healthy person simply does not think about his health - this is his natural state. Libra behaves differently.

1. Libra, where Martian properties are “in exile,” can avoid those situations where open confrontation is possible, where instant, precise actions are necessary. Psychologically it is protective escape mechanism. So, a Libra teenager may avoid active games, competitive situations, will not court a girl if someone else is courting her.

2. The second option is an attempt to protect your weakness with some pronounced advantage, a planetary property, most often occupying the upper level - “possession”, for Libra this is Venus. Then Libra can boldly go into Martian situations, but in them they will behave not according to the Martian type, but according to the Venusian type. For example, instead of taking the initiative, Libras try to compromise, share responsibility with others, etc., while losing momentum, and sometimes even the very opportunity to adequately resolve the situation.

3.Or example overcompensation according to the qualities “in exile”. For Libra, this may be exaggerated attention to Martian problems, exaggerated Martian behavior, hence increased aggressiveness in a fairly calm situation in which a compromise is quite possible. Libra may try to prove to themselves and others own strength, activity, assertiveness, confidence in which they lack. Psychological type A Libra who has chosen the strategy of overcompensation in the area of Mars is sometimes perceived by others as a pronounced Aries. A person who is confident in himself and in his abilities with a well-developed (strong) Mars will in most cases be calm. While a person with weak Mars can “explode”, “boil”, and cause a scandal. Planets in decline and expulsion are often more noticeable externally.

To objectively assess the presence (dominance) of a particular planetary property, one should apply the criterion of adequacy or inadequacy of the reaction relative to the external stimulus, the external situation that caused this reaction. Judging only by reaction can lead to significant errors.

8. Using the problem area as a “point of growth”

A person devotes all his energy to solving problems related to his planetary quality “in exile.” This is the only thing the right strategy for a real solution to the problem. These are examples when a frail and sickly boy becomes a world weightlifting champion as an adult, etc.

So, each zodiac psychotype has energy-filled, adequately manifested qualities, which are manifested by planetary properties that occupy the upper level - “possession”. Each psychotype also has an “Achilles heel”, an area that corresponds to the planetary property that occupies the lower level - “exile”.

The strategy for resolving this problem can be different:

1 – situation of “withdrawal”, complete rejection of the corresponding sphere of life;

2 – attempt to replace your own weak sides strong, protect the “Achilles’ heel” with a shield of strong properties;

3 – overcompensation, expressed by an exaggerated manifestation of planetary properties that are in exile;

4 – using the problem area as a “point of growth”.

All this is also true for the planetary properties of “exaltation” and “fall”, taking into account the fact that they are expressed to a lesser extent than the planetary properties of “in possession” and “exile”. The problems associated with a planetary property being “in decline” are not as acute as those associated with “exile.”

In which its functions are manifested in the best possible way. For all planets (with the exception of Mercury, which is both exalted in Virgo and rules it), the sign of exaltation is different from the sign of the monastery. IN Vedic astrology The degree of exaltation is also taken into account - the point at which the favorable disclosure of the qualities of the planet reaches its maximum. Planets located not only in a sign, but also in a degree of exaltation are considered especially strong.

According to some Vedic astrologers, both Rahu and Ketu are exalted in Gemini and Virgo - the abodes of Mercury.

Degrees of exaltation of planets

  • Sun - 10° Aries
  • Moon - 03° Taurus
  • Mars - 28° Capricorn
  • Mercury - 15° Virgo
  • Jupiter - 05° Cancer
  • Venus - 27° Pisces
  • Saturn - 20° Libra
  • Rahu - 20° Taurus
  • Ketu - 20° Scorpio

Exaltation is an important factor in assessing the strength and position of planets. According to some systems, the strongest planet in the horoscope is considered to be the one located closest to its degree of exaltation. The sign in opposition to the sign of exaltation is called the sign of debilitation (or detriment) of the planet, and the degree opposite to the degree of exaltation is called the degree of debilitation. Planets in decline are considered weak and problematic.

The negative effects of the fall can be neutralized by special factors. In such cases, a planet in decline can become very beneficial, sometimes even more favorable than in exaltation. The first of these neutralizing factors is the position of the debilitated planet in one of the angular houses, counting from the ascendant or the Moon. The second factor is the position of the lord of the sign where the detrimental planet is located in the sign of its exaltation. For example, if the Moon is in Scorpio, the sign of its fall, but Mars (the ruler of Scorpio) is in Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation, then the Moon’s detriment is neutralized. Not completely, but to some extent, the effect of the fall is softened even if the ruler of the debilitated planet is strong or occupies his abode. For example, if the Moon is in Scorpio and Mars is in Aries, then strong Mars will partly support the weak Moon.

Another mitigating factor is the presence of an exalted planet in one of the signs ruled by the debilitated planet. For example, if Mars is in Cancer, the sign of its fall, but the Sun is placed in Aries, the sign of its exaltation and the abode of Mars, then weak Mars will receive some support from the strong Sun. Finally, a weak but still effective mitigating factor is the retrograde of the detrimental planet. In most cases, the fall effect cannot be eliminated by one compensating factor: there must be at least two. But even in this case, a person may face serious problems before achieving great achievements.
