Paragon's major update: playing in a new way.

Many newcomers who come to Paragon for the first time, but are familiar with MOBA games, are confused by the presence of a deck of cards. We have here, it seems, a dynamic 3rd person action game, so why are these maps even needed? Again, even after looking at them, you still won’t understand all the subtleties the first time.

And since the cards in Paragon are really working and interesting solution, you are obliged to study them at least superficially, as we presented the cards in the information below.

I'm a draw deck

First, let's indicate some numbers that will display our position in the game:

Level 15 - maximum;

40 cards in a deck is the maximum number;

60 points - the maximum number of card points;

By the way, card points are always returned to you if you refuse to take a card.

By the end of the game, it is possible to collect 6 whole cards (with improvements) using various tricks. The most common build is 4 cards worth 9 card points each and 2 cards worth 12 card points each. Thus, the limit of 60 OK will be reached.

So, an equipment card costs two to eight OK. Plus, it has three upgrade cells, each of which will require one to five OK. In general, you can spend from five to twenty-three OK on such a card.

But let's talk about numbers, let's move on to specifics. What should you think about first when building a deck? Naturally, as with items in DOTA 2, in Paragon you will have to select cards for each stage of the game, while also assessing the party’s position on this moment, and own capabilities.

Beginning, early stage, mid and late game - all stages require their own approach. The main thing for you to remember is that cards will have to be destroyed in order to get card points back. That is, you can potentially use all the cards from the deck during one game.

Beginning of the game

As soon as you arrive at the base, you will immediately begin to think about what to take with you. Of course, creativity and experimentation are always encouraged, and the list below is just one of many options:

For a carry, take one health card and two for damage;

For support - health, mana and ward. Just one.

For the forester - a key card that increases attack power against neutral minions (Beast Master's Key is the best choice).

For the caster - health, mana and one token.

Why is this so? As a rule, now foresters always take a card that in one way or another helps his work in the forest, being at the same time a key.

Other roles rarely need the key, but there are exceptions. Tokens are required for more fast pumping, as they speed up the killing of mobs.

Ward, as in any other MOBA, protects your rear and reduces the chance of a gank (a sudden attack from another line). With health and mana cards, in principle, everything is clear.

Early stage

By this point, there will usually have been a few kills already, giving you some card points. You should now have 9 OKs when you originally had 12 (three went to the starting cards).

Accordingly, some prospects are opening up before us: equipment cards cost 3 OK on average, when improvements to them vary greatly. It is good practice for a player to upgrade at least one card to the maximum, as it provides an excellent bonus.

As you upgrade your card, you receive the following:

- Standard bonus from the card itself;
- First modernization;

- Second modernization;

- Third modernization;

- Final bonus for maximum upgrade.

There are only five, as you can clearly see. Now let’s look at how you can wisely spend the accumulated card points: two allies finished farming on the line and returned to base to spend everything OK.

The first player bought 1 equipment card and upgraded it twice (3 CP each), the second player bought the same card, but upgraded it three times (2 CP each).

Actually, whose side will have the advantage? Of course, the second player, since he completed the card upgrade and received the final bonus, despite the fact that his improvements were generally weaker than player 1's improvements.

Perhaps Player 1 is looking to the future and intends to unlock the accumulated potential later. This would be appropriate if Paragon did not have a function to destroy cards and return OK.

But thanks to its presence we can achieve maximum return at an early stage, while at the same time asking the price for a later one. So build your deck with the expectation that you will gradually discard its cards so that by the end of the game you can spend OK on more expensive equipment.

- One equipment card for 3 OK;
- Three upgrade cards for 2 CP to reach its completion.

From the middle of the game

The approach to choosing a deck does not change much at this stage. Here you need to figure out which equipment cards you will have time to fully upgrade (these should be cards for 6 or 9 OK) so as not to lose face during battles. Collect cards in such a way as to completely fill the OK limit, and with the expectation that you will soon destroy them.

- One ward + key;
- Three equipment cards for 3 OK each;
- Nine upgrade cards worth 2 CP each.

Card system

Cards represent unique upgrades for all characters. In other words, having purchased a card, you can place it in any of the four slots, and in return receive unique ability or increase performance indicators. For example, you can increase the damage dealt, defense, or acquire a powerful “Strike from Heaven”. For all characters you can choose different and truly impressive builds.

You can insert and remove a card even in the middle of a battle, which means you will have to select an exclusive set of cards for each opponent. Looking at the left corner of the card you will see the cost, and in the right corner the rarity. They are all different, so in order to acquire truly rare and powerful cards you will have to spend a lot of time and effort. In addition, absolutely every card can be improved up to three times. In this case, you will receive a random bonus and do not forget what better map, the more useful the reward will be.

Surely many are wondering where to get these cards. They can be received as a reward for winning a battle or obtained from card boosters that are purchased for real money. Over time, a unique system will appear that rewards you with these boosters simply for spending a lot of time in the game. In addition, the team strongly recommends stocking up on health and mana potions before each battle. In their opinion, they can save your life and even though they are not endless, you can always return to base and replenish the supply completely free of charge.

Paragon now has a new system of gems, which can be used to improve the hero’s characteristics and unlock unique effects. To activate gems, you need to increase your agility, life and intelligence levels. Universal decks also became available.

Ownership now belongs to the deck, not the hero, so the same deck can be used in play for any hero. You can now increase the level of a card if you have paired cards. With each level, the power of the card itself increases, but only in battle against AI.

"New Dawn" is a new path for the development of the hero. Unleash force on your opponent one hundred new cards. Master the new system of gems, which can be used to improve the hero’s characteristics and unlock unique effects. Level up your hero no matter where you are on the battlefield. When power comes in so many forms, how do you use it?

The mastery system has also been updated - the maximum rank has been raised from 10 to 99 for all characters. To increase your rank, you need to gain 10 levels, for this you will be given unique rewards, including the image of a Rival or Rival, hero banners, new taunts and crowns - a new decorative element.

Gold can now be spent to purchase stat points.

Iggy and Zhgun

The skills of Iggy and Zhgun have been completely redesigned - they have new turrets, an attack and an absolute ability.

Iggy and Zhgun's skills completely redesigned: this tandem now has new turrets, new attack(performed by Zhgun!) and an absolute ability not limited to melee combat.

Another innovation was an increase in attack speed and a reduction in the cooldown time for the abilities of all heroes.

The update has completely changed the game and made it much more dynamic - now matches last 30-40 instead of the usual 40-60 minutes. New system The map has become, on the one hand, simpler, but on the other, more difficult to understand. Previously, the deck consisted of 40 cards (main ones plus improvements for them), but now it consists of only 12. However, the game has become more interesting than before, and much more epic. However, for now there is a suspicion that Iggy and Zhgun are too strong. I think in the future it will have to be weakened in order to maintain balance.

Recently Epic Games together with fans Paragon I started testing a new map - “Monolith”. The authors explained that this location will replace the previous arena: in the future it will no longer be possible to play in the beloved Agora. The creators claim that they took this step for the sake of balance. In addition, making the game more interesting is one of the main tasks.

No secret

Why the new map is called this way, you understand immediately after the start of the game - a huge monolithic structure rises in the distance. Taking your eyes off the monument, you look around, find a squad of creeps, together with them you rush to the center of the location and... after a few steps you come across enemies.

The Monolith map is much smaller than its predecessor, and this is no coincidence. According to Sergei Galenkin, head of the publishing division of Epic Games in Eastern Europe, at some point the creators decided to abandon different modes moving the characters, but it would not have been possible to do this without changing the size of the previous map (it is quite large). Therefore, the authors decided, in order to avoid long adjustments to the balance for Agora, to come up with a new location.

I didn’t have time to run away from the base and already ran into the enemy.

Previously, characters in combat mode moved slower than characters in “calm mode.” This upset the balance, giving a clear advantage to those who were about to attack opponents who were in combat and moving more slowly. From now on, there is nothing like this in Paragon - on Monolith, all the heroes move at the same speed. There is simply nowhere to run faster here and there is no need to - you can get to the enemy tower on the new map in a matter of seconds.

And in general, the dynamics of battles in Paragon have increased, it’s hard not to notice it. For example, jumping platforms appeared at each base, sending characters several meters forward. Of course, you won’t be able to fly to the center of the location this way, but getting out of your base in an instant is easy. Here, however, we must remember that after the destruction of the second allied tower on any of the lines, the jumping platforms will turn off, and this is logical - in such a situation it’s time to think about protecting the base, and not about how to quickly run out of it.

Fog of war

"Monolith" is a piece of land with hills, with a forested area at each base and numerous ruins. The map is divided in half by a small river, along which you can reach other lines, both forests and a pit with the Main Sphere.

In the new arena there is no place for shadow platforms, which, under certain conditions, sheltered characters from the gaze of enemy heroes. They were replaced by walls of fog in some places on the map. It is very difficult to see the enemy through such a wall, but even if you see the enemy’s silhouette through the fog, you will not receive an advantage - the opponent will still not appear on the mini-map. Wards, by the way, also have trouble seeing through walls - to be effective, magical devices need to be installed on the other side of the foggy veil.

According to Sergei Galenkin, fog walls place players on an equal footing. Even noticing the silhouette of an enemy behind a transparent haze, the player will not understand what is actually happening behind the wall. The same can be said about the hero of the enemy team.

Through the ghostly wall you can see the silhouette of the enemy, but you still need to cross to the other side with caution.

Farming in the forest has become more difficult. At first, the “foresters” cannot do without outside help. But you need to go into the forest - new spheres have appeared there. The green one, for example, “throws a shield” at the hero, the purple one makes the character invisible for a short time, and the black one deals damage to all enemies that get close to the player.

Quite a few others important changes: the camp with the boss, for example, was moved to the right side of the map, and the amber collectors disappeared. They were replaced by amber channels - one for each warring side. At the same time, no one will forbid you to steal amber from the enemy - this is primarily the task of the “forester”.

And much more

Creation new card Epic Games didn't stop there. The developers have worked on gameplay, abilities of heroes, names of conditional classes and even above the names of characters.

Firstly, the creators of Paragon changed the approach to damage. Previously, it was divided into physical and energetic, and in updated version There are two other types: from automatic attacks and from abilities. The latter, by the way, have been reassembled: some have reduced the recovery time, others have reduced the affected area, and others have changed them altogether. Thus, Greystone, when activating Reforge, no longer throws enemies into the air, but only slows them down.

Secondly, the developers realized that they had not translated the nicknames of some heroes into Russian very well, and decided to correct the situation. Rampage is now known as Brute, Gadget has become Gadget, Sparrow has become Jay, and Kwang has become Kwan. GRIM.EXE now responds to the name Grimex, and everyone calls Twinblast Duplet.

And thirdly, the creators divided the heroes into several conventional classes, which, as planned, should help players understand what is happening and choose the right character. For example, “strong men” are the same “tanks”, “guardians” protect allies and help them in battle, “initiators” are indispensable at long distances, and so on.

It's nice to know that Epic Games is trying to make its game fairer, more fun and easier for beginners. It is also respectful that the developers were not afraid to change the map and work on the balance, although they understood that this would be a serious blow to long-time fans.

However, it cannot be said that Paragon may have problems because of this. The creators understand perfectly well how to make the game better, and, apparently, they will stop at nothing to complete the tasks.

As you play Paragon, you'll earn CPs that allow you to carry more cards from your deck. To get OK, you need to pick up amber and the more experience cards you get, the more points you will have available. Once you get enough OK, you will have more build options for your hero during the match. You will only have 60 points during the game, so keep that in mind. You can discard a card if you change your mind, but once you discard a card, it will be unavailable for the rest of the match, along with any upgrades that were placed in the card slot. Use your accumulated OKs to buy Paragon cards.

Players can visit Preparing to Win to get some cards once they are able to play the game.

  • Each equipped card has three upgrade slots. Press G to open the Card Store on PC or Touchpad on PS4. You can only improve a map by upgrading it with stats that match the map. For example, you can only improve a card with health if it has health in its statistics.
  • Players can use up to 7 cards in a match - 4 active, 2 passive and one main. Passive cards have a permanent effect when equipped. A player can have up to 6 passive cards at any time (only the main card slot cannot be occupied by a passive card). Active cards must be pressed with a specific key (1-4 on PC and D-pad) to enable its effect in the game. This means that a player can have up to 4 active cards at any time.
  • Main cards are unique and can only be activated in certain moment during the match. Players can only have one main card in their deck.

Paragon Equipment Cards

These cards are similar to items as in any MOBA game. They improve the heroes' statistics and change the gameplay with their active and passive effects. The main difference is that players can earn new cards by playing Paragon and can customize their available items to suit each hero in any match. How more games players play, the more cards they can get and the more gameplay options they get.

Players can use prepared decks or create their own. But in any case, the deck must be chosen before the start of the match. Once players are in a match, they will have access to the card store in their base. The cost of cards varies between 1-10 points and, as noted above, players will have a certain number of card points to spend in the store depending on their card level. There are two main types of cards: Equipment and Upgrades. Equipment cards have a base level that the player has chosen. They have increased statistics, passives or active effects. Upgrades only increase stats and can only be placed in equipment card slots (they cannot be placed in an empty card slot).

Card Points

OK is short for Card XP, which is accumulated by collecting amber and which gives access to cards in the game Paragon. Players will gain experience cards by collecting Amber Orbs, which appear when a hero, minion, or tower is destroyed, and by collecting Amber from Reapers. OK are summed up into the card level. Every time a player receives new level cards, it becomes possible to spend more points in the card store.

  • Amber Orbs are always tied to the team that created them. Orbs created by the enemy team will be grayish in color and cannot be picked up. However, you can prevent the enemy team from picking them up by protecting the area where the spheres are located until they disappear.
  • When an enemy tower is destroyed, the entire team automatically receives a certain amount of CP upon destruction. A pack of amber will also appear around the destroyed tower, giving the attacking team the opportunity to gain more more maps experience if they can collect them before time runs out.
  • Amber Orbs remain in the world for 60 seconds. If a player picks up an orb, all nearby allied heroes will receive the same amount of CP as the hero who picked up the orb. This way, players are not forced to steal orbs from each other.
  • Collecting amber from the reaper rewards the entire team with OK.
  • When a hero dies, several spheres will appear near the place of his death.
  • If a minion is killed by a hero, three spheres will appear that will instantly move towards the player who dealt the killing blow.
  • If a minion dies for another reason (tower, other minions), two amber spheres will appear at the place of the minion's death. This means that the player who is better at finishing off minions will have an advantage in card level, as long as all other conditions are equal.

Features of cards

Cards in Paragon are divided by stats, rarity, aspiration, and type.

Epic cards- the rarest cards in the Paragon game. You can get them randomly from card sets and as a reward for various events.

Main map— unique cards in the game Paragon. There are 3 of them in total, they are available by default to all heroes and one of them must be present in any deck. The main card can only be activated using the Main Orb, which drops from the strongest forest minion. Moreover, at first the effect of the card is activated only for the bearer of the sphere. To main map has become active for all allies, the bearer of the buff needs to take the sphere to a special drop point on the enemy side of the map.
