How to make the iron throne from game of thrones. Iron Throne from Game of Thrones

  • 31.07.2019

For his sake, betrayals, murders were committed, coups d'etat and betrayal. Wars were fought for the sake of its possession. It's about about the most unusual and coveted artifact of Westeros, well known to all fans of “Game of Thrones” - the Iron Throne.

George R.R. Martin, the author of the books and co-writer of the series, decided that a succession of formidable rulers should not sit on an ordinary armchair, even if it was cast from gold. He came up with something cooler. And I must say that his idea was a considerable success.

Creation

This is the case when the reader knows more than the viewer. The history of the Iron Throne is described in much more detail in the books. Although in the series this image is not given last place. Of course, because the fight for him never subsided!

What is so memorable about Game of Thrones fans? Iron Throne, what is so outstanding about it? This is a thing with history, and if you believe superstitious gossip, then also with character. There are rumors in Westeros that the throne itself can decide that the king is not worthy of it, and then injure the monarch, or even kill him.

The Iron Throne was created by order of Aegon I Targaryen from the weapons of the vanquished. Some of the swords previously belonged to the ironborn and were brought from the burnt Harrenhal. The other part was delivered along Chernovodnaya from the Flaming Field; the swords were also heavily melted by the flames of dragons. The ransom was paid with swords by Torrhen Stark, who recognized the power of Targaryen. The Eagle's Nest also submitted without a fight, from where Visenya Targaryen brought another batch of weapons previously belonging to the garrison.

As you can see, some of the weapons were mutilated by fire, and some were quite usable. The king ordered the very throne to be built from swords. Blacksmiths worked on the order, and the ruler’s personal dragon, Balerion, heated and melted the iron with his flame.

The nondescript fortress of Aegonfort, which was built as a temporary shelter, was soon demolished. But the throne was so huge and heavy that they decided not to touch it. The Red Castle, in fact, was simply built around the throne.

Royal comfort

First of all, we note that no one deliberately dulled the swords. It's easy to guess that the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones is not only inconvenient, but also dangerous. But that doesn't make him any less desirable.

The Iron Throne in the books "A Song of Ice and Fire"

To everyone who watched the series, the throne seems like an incredible structure, truly powerful and monumental. But in the books he is even scarier and bigger! According to the author, it took about 1000 swords to build it.

By the way, the book throne injured several owners. And Maegor the Cruel died while sitting on it. The cause of the death of Viserys I was also the throne - the king was injured and after a while died from infection, although they tried to treat him, and even amputated his fingers.

The image of the throne in the series "Game of Thrones"

The Iron Throne, the photo of which is presented in this section, is familiar to everyone who watched the fate of the Seven Kingdoms on the screen. Although it does not look like a giant metal monster, it looks quite menacing.

Fans of the series saw him on the throne for the first time. After his death, his step-sons Joffrey and Tommen ruled the state. Then Cersei ascended the throne, but her position remains precarious.

Future owner of the throne

The main contender for the crown remains, but it is impossible to say that she will become the next owner of the Iron Throne in “Game of Thrones.” The war continues, and the scriptwriters still have a lot of jokers and trump aces. For example, quite recently, viewers learned that Jon Snow is not Ned Stark’s bastard at all, but the legitimate son of Rhaegar Targaryen, which means he has much more rights to the throne than Daenerys.

Therefore, everyone who wants to know who will sit on the Iron Throne in Game of Thrones has only one thing to do - wait for the new season.

From the swords of defeated enemies. This is a very high, uncomfortable and dangerous seat with protruding spikes and blades - it happened that kings injured themselves on the blades of the throne, and at least one king, Maegor Targaryen, died right on the throne. The king sits on the throne during ceremonial receptions and court hearings. The right to ascend to the throne and sit on it only belongs to the king himself, and in his absence, to the right hand, the substitute monarch.

Story

A long straight sword is a traditional knightly weapon for Westeros, a symbol of military valor. During the Conquest, Aegon I Targaryen demanded that conquered kings and lords give him their swords as a sign of submission. After major military victories on the battlefields, the swords of fallen enemies, by special order of the king, were collected and sent to King's Landing.

The throne was originally built at Aegonfort Castle on the high hill of Aegon. This unsightly fortress, hastily built at the very beginning of the Conquest, irritated Aegon, and on his orders Aegonfort was demolished in order to build a more magnificent Red Keep on the same site; The Iron Throne, too massive for any movement, remained standing in the same place, even when the walls and roof around it were demolished. King Aegon did not live to see the construction begin; when his heir Aenys Targaryen came to King's Landing to take the throne, it turned out that the Iron Throne stood under open air among piles of earth and rubble. The new Red Castle was built around the Iron Throne without moving it.

The Iron Throne is a very uncomfortable seat; When climbing stairs and even just sitting on the throne, you need to be careful not to get hurt by the protruding blades. In the eyes of the Westerosi, such wounds are also symbolic - it is believed that the Throne rejects those who are unworthy to occupy it.

Have you ever seen the Iron Throne? Spikes, strips of twisted steel, sword blades tangled and fused together? This seat is not a comfortable one, sir. Aerys wounded himself so often that he was called the Scab King, and Maegor the Cruel was killed on that throne. This throne, if rumors are to be believed. You can’t feel calm on such a seat. I often wonder why my brothers were so eager to occupy him. Stannis Baratheon on the Iron Throne / Storm of Swords, Davos IV

Quotes

The Iron Throne of Aegon the Conqueror greeted any fool who wanted to sit comfortably on it with a grin of spikes and blades, and the steps were a serious test for Tyrion's short legs. He climbed them, acutely aware of how funny he must be from the outside. But one property of the throne redeemed all others: it was high. A Clash of Kings, Tyrion VI
Huge, bulky, black, twisted, with a steep iron staircase in front. The seat is so high that the king looks down on everyone... My throne is a hunched beast that literally hangs over the throne room with its ugly and asymmetrical figure...<…>This Iron Throne is huge. Ugly. Asymmetrical. This is a throne built by blacksmiths who used hammers to knock together half-melted, broken, twisted swords, torn from the hands of the dead or voluntarily given by defeated enemies... a symbol of conquest...<…>The king on this throne towers over the entire throne room. And there are thousands of swords in it, not just a couple.

List of materials

  1. 2 sheets of polystyrene foam.
  2. Ceiling plinth. I had about 20-30 pieces. Each 2m.
  3. Tile adhesive.
  4. PVA glue.
  5. Black acrylic paint. 300ml.
  6. Gold paint. (spray paint works great) 1 fl.
  7. Oilcloth or newspapers.
  8. Old brush.

To your frame (chair, stool) you attach a backrest cut from polystyrene foam. This can be done using liquid nails or tape. It all depends on what material you have.
I needed to secure the back to the frame, so I opted for tape. The sides of the throne were also made of polystyrene foam. After that I started cutting swords from the ceiling plinth. When buying a plinth, you choose the width of your swords. All of mine were the same size except for the main two. When I bought the paint, they told me that I could choose one defective baseboard as a gift, I chose the most beautiful one! :-)

Let's return to the throne. When you have chosen the size of your future swords, cut the baseboard, sharpened your swords, do not forget to leave material for the handles.
Next, I strongly advise you to paint the baseboard. I first started attaching it, due to this, later there were problems with thorough painting. I had to buy spray paint to paint the hard-to-reach places on the throne.
You can paint with regular black acrylic paint diluted with PVA glue. Paint the baseboards and the throne itself. Once everything is dry, use gold colored spray paint to create a bronze distressed effect. Spray the paint in several places on the sword and immediately rub it with an old brush. Let it dry and start attaching the swords (which are without hilts) to the throne.
Here you can improvise, I tried to do at least something similar to the original.
We made the top cap of the throne, the first and second tier. Next, attach the third, lowest one. Attach to a sheet of polystyrene foam using tile adhesive. The back of the chair was in the way, so I had to reinforce everything with tape.
After securing all tiers, begin to make the main one, so to speak, the front one. This is where the swords with hilts will be visible. Glue the hilts onto the swords, paint them and follow your design or randomly attach them to the tiers of your throne, only now with the tip down. On sides also glue swords. We have painted foam rubber on the seat of the chair.
The bottom of the throne was empty, but we plan to fill this gap and improve this creation. You can attach a cut out sheet of styrofoam to the bottom and decorate it with swords as well.

Guys, I would like to warn you a little.
Acrylic paint dries quickly, but you can still get dirty, so be sure to wear your “art work” clothes. Use gloves and a mask.
Cover the floor with oilcloth or at least newspapers, as you risk staining your apartment with paint.
I was so carried away that now the floor on the balcony is a little decorated. I hope the neighbors appreciate it!

If you use spray paint, it is advisable to also cover nearby furniture. Even if it seems to you that you are “spraying” straight ahead, in fact the paint is gradually sprayed over a radius of a couple of meters and then settles.

That seems to be it. The accelerated version of the throne is ready! All that remains is to transport it to another room, with which my mother helped me a lot :-) and decorate the room with a couple more themed things. Draw a Westeros flag and order a cake in the shape of a dragon egg.

I hope you like my idea, and my tips will help you do something new and interesting!

Peace and Goodness to everyone!
