Assassin's Creed Rogue review in Russian. Assassin's Creed Rogue - the other side of the coin

  • 28.08.2019

Assassin's Creed Rogue became the eighth game in the famous Assassin's Creed series from Ubisoft. The creators decided to move the scene to the waters of the North Atlantic, during the so-called “Seven Years War”. The main character was the young warrior Shay Cormac, a member of the Order of Assassins, completely unknown to fans of the previous ones parts of the series. In parallel, the storyline is led by the Analyst of Abstergo Entertainment, who is trying to unravel the tangled tangle of Cormac's memories.
Initially, Ubisoft had no plans to make a powerful original action movie out of Assassin's Creed Rogue. This is evidenced by the eloquent fact that the game was first released only on PS3 and Xbox 360. Almost on the same day, the much-hyped Assassin's Creed was released on the new generation consoles: Unity. The latter really looked more impressive and generally prettier, and this part was interesting because of the presence of a number of important gameplay updates. In a word, Assassin's Creed Rogue then remained somewhere in the background. And so, on March 10 of this year, the PC version of Assassin's Creed: Rogue was released, which demonstrates a rather interesting storyline and the absence of technical flaws. These qualities positively distinguish the game from Unity, which many did not like due to its technical weakness. Overall, Assassin's Creed Rogue is definitely worth discussing and testing.

Similarities between Rogue and previous games in the series

The concept of Rogue is not much different from previous parts of the series - for example, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. We again watch as assassins attack in the style of pirates sea vessels, board them and storm the forts. Our hero is slowly creating his own small fleet. However, the protagonist’s sea adventures can end at almost any moment - the ship will moor to the shore, and he will go about much more familiar things. In the game the player is provided greater freedom moving around cities - from hunting wild animals to jumping on the high roofs of local houses. The hero creates equipment for himself from the skins of killed animals, collects important bonuses and at the same time deals with enemies.

Our hero does not spend time on land alone. From time to time you can visit local shops and taverns, where you have a chance to recruit a team for the crew and purchase all kinds of upgrades or weapons. If you wish, you can act more ambitiously: capture settlements and gradually improve the standard of living in them. This inevitably leads to an increase in the personal income of the protagonist. Oh yes, in parallel with this, we are all invited to go through quite interesting story missions. Much attention they focus on hunting some important people.
Unfortunately, Assassin's Creed Rogue could not get rid of the outdated and rather boring “tricks” of previous games in the series. The player will sometimes have to deal with boring additional sub-missions, cope with the sometimes uncontrollable controls of the main character, who, as if of his own free will, is always going somewhere. then jumps, climbs, etc. The game’s combat system also raises some complaints, with which you can defeat it almost without doing anything. most enemies you meet on your way. It’s good that at least in Unity the developers have made attempts to eliminate these shortcomings. It’s a pity that innovations in it coexist with big amount technical bugs, they seriously spoil the impression of the game.

Plot innovations

Despite the fact that Assassin's Creed Rogue is far from perfect, it has those features that are sorely lacking in Unity. In it we have the opportunity to see a truly unusual hero and an exciting plot. I just want to combine the two latest games in the Assassin's Creed series - it would be an amazing game!
In terms of plot, Rogue surpasses any previous games with which it can theoretically be compared. The plot twists here are much sharper and more vivid. You definitely won't be bored while playing! From the very beginning main character enters the game as a member of the Brotherhood of Assassins, tries to find a valuable artifact, fights the templars and improves his characteristics. As the plot develops, Shay Cormac gradually moves away from the rest of the assassins and, as a result, completely goes over to the side of the Templars.
The beauty of Rogue's story is that it opens up gaps left by previous games in the series. What remains a mystery or unsaid to you will be explained in one way or another in Rogue. For this reason, fans of the Assassin's Creed series should definitely play this game.

A significant part of the gameplay is the confrontation between Cormac and his former entourage - the assassins. Sometimes the main character has to become a victim himself. Literally at any moment when you go through another mission, an enemy can appear out of nowhere and significantly damage the character’s health. The difficulty of defending against assassins is that they use similar methods of camouflage and attack. To detect them, the player will have to work hard: more than once he will have to use cunning to lure assassins out of ambushes, use “eagle vision,” etc.

What's new in gameplay?

Rogue is definitely not a secondary product; the game is full of innovations, the absence of which plagued previous parts of the Assassin's Creed series. For example, from now on the player will be able to additionally travel to the shores North America and to the cold Atlantic waters. These areas are now open for exploration and marine activities. But don't get too excited about exploring the cold waters of the Atlantic. Been in this part for too long globe negatively affects the character's health.

We wrote above that you can capture other sea vessels with your crew, board them, etc. So, your opponents can behave in a similar way, so you should never relax. As for your crew's capabilities, Cormac's ship will be able to stealthily launch its harpoons at enemy ships, use Pakla's gun to attack their vulnerable units, and successfully retreat from the battlefield with the help of mountain oil.
Once on land, Cormac can use the new air gun to do his business. As ammunition, you can use sleeping darts and capsules with a certain substance that drives the victim of a shot into a real rage. An enemy that attacks everything around you will play into your hands in those moments when you need to do something to distract other enemies or simply get somewhere unnoticed. Of course, these are not revolutionary gameplay changes in Assassin's Creed games, but take my word for it, they are very refreshing game process, making the novelty rich.

So what do we have? Assassin's Creed Rogue really looks a bit like the Black Flag game from the same series, and the available platforms in the form of the old generation of consoles do not inspire joy. However, this does not negate the unconditional importance of this game. If you are a fan of the series or you just played the previous parts , and you really liked them, then you have no right to ignore Rogue.

The PC version of the game looks much more beautiful than Rogue, which was released last year for PS3 and Xbox 360. There will be no bugs, glitches or crashes. Everything is done to the highest possible quality so that you can just play and not be distracted by little things.

Assassins creed: Rogue is a very unusual part of the game in the entire series, which deserves special attention.

First, the storyline is presented from a different, more radical perspective. The main character denies the assassins who long years trained and prepared him for some not entirely noble deeds. Therefore, having “seen the light”, Shay Patrick Cormack joins the Order of the Templars in order to resist the insidious plans of the brotherhood of murderers. Thus, while playing, it is quite interesting to observe the entire development of events in the plot.

Secondly, it’s not strange, but the developers with Ubisoft released a truly optimized project, unlike AC: Unity, in which fps dropped significantly on the most powerful machines. Although even the graphics in Assassins creed: Rogue have remained at the same level since the days of Black Flag, the gameplay and storyline completely pull this game out.

Thirdly, the gameplay in some places is much cooler than in Black Flag, since in addition to character development, new features appear in the arsenal of weapons. For example, the under-barrel grenade launcher on a wooden gun was very surprising. You can now throw an explosive projectile into a crowd of enemies or destroy walls. And also new cannons with drums installed on the ship are effective in naval battles.

In the process of capturing new territories, you have to fight with other assassins who can
kill the main character with one stab in the back. At the same time, they use the same arsenal as the main character, with the exception of the gun. That is, the enemy can shoot at the main character with two barrels, or sneak up unnoticed from behind and use hidden blade. In this case, it is necessary to often use the “eagle eye” to detect the “hoods”.

Combat system in Assassins creed: Rogue strong changes, unfortunately not subjected. Still the same hidden blows, parries, frontal attacks, grabs and so on.

Generally this game makes you immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the seven-year war, which arose in the 18th century in America. Look at the situation with alternative point point of view (Templar) causes some interest in playing and leading the storyline until the very end.

More in early spring there were rumors that this year we were expecting two new Assassin's Creeds at once. At first it seemed nonsense, because even the production line Call of Duty comes out no more than once a year, giving a little rest from itself. However, in May, Ubisoft confirmed the rumor, and gamescom 2014 presented Assassin's Creed: Rogue - a project for the old generation of consoles that will continue nautical theme and will combine the storylines of Assassin's Creed 3 and Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Frightening generosity on the part of a French publisher!

Black flag on the horizon!

The development of Assassin's Creed: Rogue began long before the release of the fourth part, and, apparently, the motives were the most mercantile. The new generation of consoles is wonderful and promising; a largely rethought Assassin’s Creed: Unity is being prepared for it. The problem is that by the time Unity was released, the total number of PS4 and Xbox One will amount to best case scenario twenty million pieces. It sounds good only until you remember the 150 million army of PS3 and Xbox 360. It would be stupid to miss such a jackpot!

Therefore, Ubisoft needed to offer owners of old consoles their own Assassin's Creed, familiar and painfully familiar. Without shocking innovations and with an approach to assassination that has been loved over the years. And so, while key personnel were inventing Unity, the Bulgarian office of Ubisoft followed the path least resistance and used the developments from the previous parts to the fullest, especially the last, fourth.

“There are hardcore Assassin's Creed fans who will be happy to play both games, and there are many who have not yet decided to spend money on new consoles. Both of them are very grateful to us,” Ubisoft producer Karl von der Luhe once boasted .

You can't have fun with diving in Rogue, but it's easy to hook narwhals or hunt animals in the forests

Your face seems familiar to me...

The game will take place exactly between the events of Black Flag and AC 3, during the Seven Years' War. Many are inclined to consider that military conflict of the 18th century to be the real First World War. On multiple fronts in all parts of the world, from Canada to the Philippines, dozens of states tried to carve up the disputed new lands. The main character, an Irishman named Shay Patrick Cormack, travels from Europe to North America and finds himself in the thick of things. The British and French were just deciding who would own Canada.

By the way, the French lost then. and not only in North America, but also on all other fronts, ceased to be colonial power and plunged into a deep crisis. It was he who became one of the reasons for the Great french revolution, about which Assassin's Creed: Unity talks.

Our Irishman, oddly enough, will take the side of his sworn neighbors - the British. If you played the third part and are accustomed to considering them scoundrels, you will have to get used to it. Here they fight for everything good against everything bad, and in general they are great guys.

It’s also interesting with the Brotherhood of Assassins and the Order of the Templars: at first Cormac will carry out the orders of the former, but very soon, for unspecified reasons, he will defect to competitors. “The idea of making a Templar the main character appeared back in the very first part of Assassin’s Creed,” admits the game’s producer.

On his way, the hero will meet Haytham Kenway, already familiar to us, and will influence his future decision to join the ranks of the Templar Order. Let us remember that we met the young Haytham in Black Flag, and in AC 3 he was one of the playable characters. They say that in Rogue we will encounter other familiar heroes.

That's not all the parallels are. We will find ourselves in New York again, only a couple of decades earlier than the events of the third part: New Yorkers have not yet seen a devastating fire, and the city is intact. And since we will not fight for the assassins, but against them we will have to do thankless and very dangerous work - poking beehives with a stick. Destroy numerous brotherhood shelters in the city.

In general, the authors promise to work on the plot and deliver “the darkest part of the series.” Templars are not as scrupulous as assassins, and the hero will, without a twinge of conscience, pierce another civilian with his sword. One more peasant, one less - who even counts them? On occasion, you can release poisonous gas to depopulate an entire settlement. As usual, we beat everyone, in heaven they will figure out where they are and where they are strangers. Moreover, the concepts of “friends” and “strangers” will change several times during the course of the plot. And very cool.

You have me confused with someone!

The main innovation of Assassin's Creed: Rogue will be the hero himself, who has learned new tricks. Cormac clearly learned one of them from the Persian prince - now you can climb up by jumping between two closely standing walls.

The developers also updated the arsenal, rewarding the stern Irishman air rifle, an assortment of grenades and even a grenade launcher. True, they won’t be able to blow anything up, but they’ll blow up as much smoke as they want. The imagination immediately pictures a quiet penetration behind enemy lines under the cover of a white veil, but in practice everything is more prosaic: the stele here is still the same casual. For new mechanics, again, welcome to Unity.

The sea episodes won't go away either. The sun-drenched waters of the Caribbean will replace the chilly expanses of the north Atlantic Ocean, where you can no longer swim. Zero sea temperature kills a little slower than a head shot from a musket, but also for sure. In order not to share the fate of the Titanic, you will have to vigilantly monitor icebergs, maneuver between blocks of ice or destroy them with volleys from deck cannons.

The miracle ship “Morrigan” combines the features of a jet ski and a nuclear icebreaker. From the first - maneuverability, from the second - the ability to pierce arctic ice with your nose

The new schooner "Morrigan" is equipped with heavy mortars, bow guns, as well as a rapid-fire side gun. But the most fun device is for igniting fuel oil spilled on water. The long burning trail behind the ship looks terrifying and majestic, especially at night.

Naval battles have accelerated and become more dynamic, which is also facilitated by slightly smarter AI. If you drag out the battle and lose half of the crew, you risk becoming easy prey for the enemy landing forces - the enemies will probably try to board your ship.

When a ship is boarded, it doesn’t matter what kind of guns and rams it has - everything is decided by who has the strongest arm and the strongest blade

But despite this, it is difficult to get rid of the feeling that you are not playing in independent game, but in some expanded addition to Black Flag. Especially during naval skirmishes.

Old views in a new way

The transition from island landscapes to icy cliffs is perhaps the main difference in the scenery. The technologies have remained the same, although the developers beat themselves in the chest and claim that the engine has been tightened up in all places, squeezing out everything possible.

This made it possible to simulate vast spaces for exploration. The expanses of the River Valley alone (the coast of North America in more or less warm latitudes) are not inferior in size to the entire Black map Flag! It may seem that this is far from the main victory of the developers, and yet on older consoles with their limited RAM It's not easy to pull off a trick like this.

Rogue promises to be the darkest and cruel game in the series. We'll see...

“To do this, we had to take two existing gameplay schemes and heavily rework them. We took AC 3's wilderness hunts, whose difficulty maxed out the power of the consoles, and Black Flag's naval battles, which also left plenty of resources to spare. And we combined both systems in one location. I had to work hard, freeing up a lot of additional memory for this matter. So, technically, the changes are quite significant,” says game producer Ivan Balabanov.

Unfortunately, the game not only gained, but also lost some things. For so many years the publisher has been accustoming console players to online battles, but now they have given up on it! All online specialists from Ubisoft are mastering the new generation of consoles, so don’t expect multiplayer in Rogue.

***

By all formal features it turns out that the game is completely secondary. With a critical minimum of innovations, designed to please Black Flag fans and replenish the French treasury at the expense of owners of outdated consoles.

However, one important nuance turns everything upside down. We studied player reviews on the world's specialized resources, and here's the thing: many fans of the series are almost more optimistic about Rogue than they are about the rebuilt Unity. After all, from dark horse you never know what to expect, and in the case of Assassin's Creed: Rogue, everything is simple and clear: native, familiar, and even profitable.

Verdict

Conservative Assassin's Creed: Rogue acts as a safety net for the updated Assassin's Creed: Unity. The developers deliberately abandoned experiments and decided to give players everything they liked before.

This year the number of games in the franchise Assassin's Creed exceeded all reasonable limits. Three big games - excluding mobile applications and other wretched crafts. Honestly, I have no strength to endure this anymore.

In an attempt to reach all segments of fans, the publisher Ubisoft tricked its ears by launching 2 projects this fall: AC Unity hilled up PC/XOne/PS4, and here AS Rogue was destined for the role of appeasing the orthodox with PS3/X360 (PC-version announced for early 2015).

For development Outcast answered Ubisoft Sofia- this team is responsible for AC Liberation, a reissue of which was released at the beginning of the year. The new game is designed to put an end to the saga of the formation of the United States. Become a kind of analogue Star Wars Episode III, talking about how from prosperity in Black Flag, the brotherhood of assassins fell into decline, described in AC III.

Considering all the obscenity that is happening with Unity, Outcast was seen as a kind of outlet - the first reviews and reviews inspired confidence. The best and most comprehensive game in the series! A sea of content. Sounds cool, right? So...ghm. This is all nonsense.

AC Rogue can easily be called the dullest part of the series. She easily beats all previous projects in this field, clearly proving the fact that the thirst for profit and greed never lead to good.

So what is Outcast? The most accurate definition is a low-budget medley of ideas from the third and fourth parts. The key emphasis is on the word low budget.

This time we are given the role of a novice assassin Shay Patrick Cormack, suffering from the syndrome of spherical cretinism in a vacuum, as well as the gullibility of a ram and the sense of self-preservation of a lemming. Having freaked out during one of the tasks, he escapes from the brotherhood and joins the ranks of the Templars under the leadership of Haytham Kenway and Co.

How do you like the opening? But we just told you summary about a third of the game. No kidding. The plot in the game is extremely fleeting. Most of the time we have to deal with a dull routine, diluted with no less dreary dialogues - with clinically faceless characters, and around this time there will be a complete madhouse going on, personifying Seven Years' War, which passes on the periphery - background noise when traveling.

In total, we have three very large locations available to us. The first one is NY, which is taken straight from AC III and slightly expanded (events take place before the famous fire). Second zone -River Valley, a kind of frontier from the same AC III: many rivers, lakes, included - famous for creativity Washington Irving Sleepy Hollow. Well, the main place of action is a small piece North Atlantic, significantly smaller in size than the map from Black Flag. But ice, icebergs and polar bears.

As a rule, all assassins always sit in a strictly designated place, not showing any interest in the carcass of the would-be Templar. And we can easily figure them out by hearing otherworldly whispers and turning on eagle vision, supplemented by the radar from the multiplayer of previous parts. And time after time they will be reborn the next time you load them in the same place.

The most global problem exploration games peace. It's boring as hell. Despite its size, there is simply nothing to occupy yourself with. Side activities They dump a ton on us, but there is no motivation to get through. In the third and fourth parts, many side-quests often turned out to be more interesting than the main plot outline. IN Outcast An endless hunt for animals and the rescue of faceless Templars from equally faceless assassins awaits us.

Arsenal Shaya has undergone some changes. Now he wields a sword and a dagger, which, however, did not affect combat system. But what changes a little is a prodigy that shoots darts and is equipped with an under-barrel grenade launcher. Now we can actually pump up crowds of enemies with sleeping gas and berserker poison. Let's say right away - use it a couple of times and forget about it.

Ship mechanics have undergone minor changes. So now we have a machine gun in our arsenal Pakla- replacement for small cannons on the sides of the vessel. A ram and an icebreaker have appeared - we can cut through icy places and on full speed ahead penetrate enemy ships. Since the climate has undergone changes, water tornadoes have disappeared; they have been replaced by snow storms, which appear only on major holidays. But icebergs have appeared that can be used tactically - by shooting them we raise a small wave that demolishes all small ships within the radius of the wave.

The biggest failure is the technical component of the game. Budget savings are reflected. Bad textures low fps, terrible shadows, and disgusting drawing distance of many objects - the game looks much worse than wonderful Black Flag. Added to this is the general crookedness of the gameplay - the hero constantly cannot climb onto objects, falls past haystacks, and the like. The characters are extremely poorly animated and even worse voiced. This is exactly the case when it makes sense to try Russian localization.

The story campaign itself is very short-lived, but the gameplay is drawn out by the capture of forts and fortresses. The murder of the captain is attached, only now these subjects behave like assassins: they can chase, hide and will use the entire available arsenal of tricks. Or rather, they are trying, because they are being terribly stupid. The AI in the game constantly performs tricks, such as turning on suspicion at a distance of 300 meters from the place of death of their colleague.

Summing up the above, it is worth admitting that the game could have turned out quite good. Yes, not particularly original, but still. Everything was ruined by the cut budget, haste and resulting negligence. Ubisoft It’s high time to understand that the work of a dozen studios on one project at a Stakhanov pace requires extremely strict coordination of actions. Without this, their products come out extremely raw. And when it is done according to the residual principle, it is extremely boring. Outcast It may well captivate zealous fans of the series, and besides, we have a rather poor winter ahead for releases. Perhaps the adventures of a sober Irishman will hook you.

Game tested on PlayStation 3

From the moment of the announcement and the appearance of the first gameplay videos, Rogue evoked an acute feeling of déjà vu. As if we had seen all this, with rare exceptions, earlier, in previous parts of Assassin's Creed. As it turned out, a new game really uses all the best parts of the third part and Black Flag, without offering any noticeable innovations.

Ubisoft partly succeeded in smoothing out the feeling of secondaryness with one simple detail - the French just turned the usual narrative upside down. If before we controlled assassins and helped the Brotherhood fight the Templars, here a hired killer abandons his comrades and begins to hunt them. However, even observing what is happening from the other side does not allow us to get rid of the thought that this is more of a major independent addition than a full-fledged game.

⇡ Black-black flag

The project tells the story of Shay Patrick Cormack, born in New York to Irish immigrants. Since childhood, he was friends with Liam O'Brien, who subsequently invited him to the Brotherhood, where Shay met the rest of the assassins, including other recruits. Among the main members of the Brotherhood was Achilles, familiar to the players from the third part, and the consequences of one of the orders given to them forced Cormac to leave his comrades, and later to start hunting for them.

Familiar characters meet along the way from the very beginning - Haytham appears after Adewale and Achilles

As often happens in Assassin's Creed, you will be able to see the plot described in the game description only after a few hours. At first, the main character is no different from an ordinary assassin, and therefore the first quarter of the passage does not cause much interest - unless, of course, Rogue is your thing an entrance ticket to the world of the series. Veterans will see the familiar gameplay.

But after the character’s transformation into an antagonist of the Brotherhood, the first unique features of the game begin to appear. For example, assassins are by no means humble sheep. They try with all their might to ruin Neck’s life, hiding literally around every corner and jumping out at the most unexpected moments. It gets ridiculous - while collecting collectibles in some deep forest, Shay may stumble upon a stalker hidden in the bushes, who will stab him with a dagger and immediately run away in an unknown direction.

Tracking such enemies is not difficult, as loud whispers can be heard when approaching them. If you turn on eagle vision, the radar at the bottom of the screen will indicate the direction from which to expect an attack. Similar mechanics are used in side missions, where it is necessary to protect a certain target from an attack by hired assassins - the player is given one or two minutes to search for assassins in the locations indicated on the map. They are very cunning - they hide not only in the crowd, but also on the roofs, which is why the “cleansing” occurs at a crazy pace.

The combat system has undergone some changes, but if you don't have time to study them, you can simply throw the enemy off a cliff

By and large, the matter is limited to the innovations described above. Almost everything else is a template taken from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, to which a pinch of Assassin's Creed III was added, wrapping it all in a story about a killer former comrades Templar Moreover, the copying is often very noticeable - New York looks as if the developers simply pulled it out of the third part and transferred it to Rogue. Because of this, collecting collectibles and exploring the area with tall towers is perceived as banal and boring repetition.

However, copying individual elements does not always appear in a bad light in Rogue. Naval battles, as before, bring great pleasure - Cormac's personal ship, the Morrigan, is very easy to control, and its gradual improvement makes battles with other ships very intense and spectacular. At first, only heavy cannonballs are available, but then the sides are barbed with mortars. It also becomes possible to spill flammable oil behind the ship in order to discourage the enemy from pursuing. The principle by which forts are captured has remained unchanged, but is still not boring - circling along the coast, blasting towers with cannonballs, is still exciting.

⇡ Repetition of what has been covered

And as soon as you find yourself at the helm of a ship, you want to return to land less and less. After all, there awaits us the same running through the streets, climbing trees and houses, hundreds, or even thousands of collectibles, which are immediately shown on the mini-map and do not require the slightest effort to find them. New types of weapons could add variety, but there are not as many unusual things among them as we would like. We have already seen the rope dart and smoke bombs, but darts and grenades with “bestial” make the passage so easy that you don’t even want to use them. As soon as you use them on an enemy, he will fly into a rage and turn his weapon against his comrades - it looks funny, but the gameplay is clearly not ennobled.

Tackling between icebergs on a large ship, listening to the crunch of ice under the stern, is simply magical

Among other things, animal hunting has returned to Rogue, which has been noticeably simplified compared to the third part. There is no need to set traps and lure out living creatures while sitting in the bushes - catching up with a hare or fox is as easy as jumping on them from a tree. And it’s not at all necessary to hunt here, since all the skins necessary for leveling up can be bought at a bargain price from traders - this even applies to killer whale skin, which is very difficult to obtain honestly.

As similar as Rogue is to its predecessors, the storyline and naval battles are still enough to make it worth paying attention to. But, as with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, the project is not perceived as a new game in the series. Yes, it fills the gap between the third and fourth parts, offers an interesting story and provides answers to many questions that fans have. However, in all other respects, it is almost a word-for-word copy of the aforementioned iterations of Assassin's Creed, lacking the originality and unique features that could justify its current price. Ubisoft offers to purchase Rogue at the cost of other major new products, without giving a single reason to agree to such a condition.

Therefore, Rogue can only be recommended to those who follow the game with great interest. storyline series and does not miss a single grain new information. For such people, the story of an assassin who became a Templar will be very exciting. Although they will be disappointed by the length - compared to Black Flag, it’s exactly half as long story missions. We won’t recommend the game to others - if you don’t like the series, Rogue won’t fix that.

Advantages:

  • an interesting plot that allows you to look at history from a different perspective;
  • battles at sea are still impressive.

Flaws:

  • continuous self-copying and lack of new ideas;
  • too short storyline;
  • Rogue feels more like a standalone expansion than a full game.
Graphic arts Externally, Rogue is no different from the versions of Black Flag for the previous generation of consoles. And there’s nothing wrong with that - both look quite decent, but don’t show anything incredible. 7
Sound There are no memorable compositions, and the soundtrack itself is rather sparse - for example, in tense scenes or during chases, the same composition is almost always included. But Irish tunes are nice to listen to. 7
Single player game The short storyline may be a surprise for players - only six missions, while in the third and fourth parts their number exceeded a dozen. The lack of innovation and widespread copy-paste are also not beneficial. 6
Group game Not provided. -
General impression Assassin's Creed Rogue can't be called bad game, since it uses all the best that was in its predecessors. But this is the main problem - asking full price for the same thing, albeit with a different storyline, is not entirely fair. 7
