Nature did not reward Siberia with its own sea, but people decided to correct the situation. So in 1950, in parallel with the construction of a hydroelectric dam on the Ob River, the Novosibirsk reservoir was created, which local residents proudly call the Ob Sea. Everything here is truly “sea-like”: there are numerous beaches, cozy fishing spots, unexplored islands, waves cut through snow-white yachts and boats, even the weather sometimes creates violent storms, which have already resulted in real shipwrecks several times.

Where is it located: The Ob Sea is located in the territory Novosibirsk region And Altai Territory, stretches from Kamen-on-Obi to Novosibirsk.

Cultural recreation: modern recreation centers, boarding houses, sanatoriums, yacht clubs and children's camps are scattered along the entire coast of the Ob Sea. Among the tourist centers, the most popular are “Old Marina”, “Grenada”, “Blue Lake”, “Siberian Pearl”, “Khmelevka”, “Balush”, “Brigantine”, “Westfalika” and “Ob Expanses”. Islands: there are more than 20 islands in the Ob Sea. Most of them are the remains of villages that were flooded when the reservoir was created. The most famous islands are Tan-Van, Elban, Atamanovsky, Kamenny, Krasnoyarsky Borok, Krasny Yar, Polovinsky Borok, Semizarodny, Shumsky Cordon. Many legends are associated with these pieces of land among the watery expanse. According to one of them, Tan Wan, which is also known as Bear, is connected by an underground passage to Academy Town. And according to other legends, on Horseradish Island, in addition to wild horseradish, “walking mushrooms” also grow: they can move from the flooded part of the island to the dry half.

Fishing: The Novosibirsk reservoir with its bays, holes and reaches is an excellent place for fishing. The local ichthyofauna is striking in its diversity: sturgeon, pike perch, pike, broad whitefish, sterlet, peled, nelma, muksun, whitefish, carp, crucian carp, bream, burbot, tench, grayling, ide, roach, dace, perch. Fishing for sturgeon and whitefish is prohibited, but other species may well become a trophy for fishermen. On the Ob Sea you can fish with rods, donkeys and spinning rods. Fishing with boats, circles and girders is also popular. Very often they organize fishing tours and all kinds of competitions, both in sport fishing and among amateurs. Trolling for pike and zander is especially popular. In winter, the reservoir freezes, and perch becomes a favorite fishing spot.

Ob Reservoir on the map

To create an artificial reservoir, the historical district of Berdsk and some villages of the Novosibirsk region were completely flooded. The Ob Sea extends over 220 km. The area of its water area is about 1100 square meters. km. The maximum depth reaches 20 m. On the coast of the Ob Sea there are many settlements, including Kamen-on-Obi, Berdsk, Spirino, Krutikha, Maletino, Ordynskoye, Krasny Yar, Ust-Aleus, Kirza, Ust-Khmelevka, Bystrovka, Burmistrovo.

His water resources used for fisheries, energy supply, shipping, as a source drinking water. The Ob Sea has its own unique, inimitable life. Here nature has not skimped on the colors and diversity of inhabitants. Many animals and plants live in harmony in a unique environment.
As the water level drops in the spring, the sandy bottom of the reservoir opens up. The illusion of numerous islands and beaches, small bays opens up to your eyes. But in summer, the increased volume of water hides all these beauties.

In spring, small plovers carefully nurse their offspring on the sandy coast. Waders, whose eggs resemble small river pebbles, place their nests in open areas.

The shores of the Ob Sea are protected from prying eyes by mighty primeval forests: Karakansky, Ust-Aleussky and Ordynsky. Picturesque landscape, clean and Fresh air, the coolness of the sea breezes has become business card of this region. Created here natural conditions for complete relaxation, attracting with their perfection both local residents and guests from neighboring regions of Siberia.

Fishing and recreation on the Ob Reservoir

The artificial reservoir has become a habitat for almost 40 species of fish. More than half of them are commercial species. Local fisheries include carp, crucian carp, tench, pike, perch, roach, dace, ide, and burbot. Valuable representatives are found here, including: taimen, sturgeon, nelma, sterlet, whitefish, muksun, whitefish. But there is ecological problems in this region. Trees that had recently grown in dense coastal forests found themselves in the water. Many kilometers are being eroded coastline, forest areas are shrinking. The decomposition of wood leads to the formation of poisons in the water that are destructive to the ichthyofauna of the Ob Sea. Causes significant damage to the reservoir economic activity person.
