  • 21.02.2024

Based on the results of the latest competitions and medical indicators, the men's biathlon team included: Anton Shipulin, Dmitry Malyshko, Evgeny Ustyugov, Evgeny Garanichev, Andrey Makoveev, Alexey Volkov, Alexander Loginov, Alexey Slepov, Alexander Pechenkin and Maxim Tsvetkov. The post of senior coach is occupied by Nikolai Lopukhov, his assistants are Sergei Konovalov and Pavel Lantsov.

Five more biathletes - Ivan Tcherezov, Maxim Chudov, Sergei Klyachin, Timofey Lapshin and Maxim Maximov are in the team's reserves. They undergo training according to an individual program.

Who made the women's biathlon team

Women biathletes are divided into two groups and train using different methods. One of them, headed by Alexander Selifonov, includes Olga Vilukhina, Ekaterina Yurieva, Valentina Nazarova, Irina Starykh, Marina Korovina, Anastasia Zagoruiko and Olga Podchufarova. The second group, coached by Wolfgang Pichler and Pavel Rostovtsev, includes Olga Zaitseva, Svetlana Sleptsova, Ekaterina Shumilova and Ekaterina Glazyrina. Several more biathletes are in reserve, training individually.

It should be noted that this division was carried out both at the personal request of the athletes and at the decision of the Russian national team coaches. The results of V. Pichler’s work, despite his high reputation in biathlon, cannot yet be called encouraging for the Russian team. Many sharp criticisms were made against him. However, Pichler has repeatedly stated that he is preparing athletes specifically for the Olympic Games, with the expectation that they will reach peak form by the start of the competition. And intermediate results can be sacrificed for such a goal.

According to the vice-president of the Russian Biathlon Union V. Maygurov, the composition of the team may still undergo changes. The final list will be approved by January 15, 2014. Since the main goal is successful performance at the Olympics, it is possible that some of the athletes will miss the World Cup stages.

Snowboarding is one of the youngest Olympic disciplines. This sport, which involves descending from a snowy slope on a special board, was included in the Olympic Games program in 1998 during competitions in the Japanese city of Nagano. Snowboarding is divided into the following disciplines: border cross, slalom, parallel slalom, giant slalom, parallel giant slalom, super giant slalom. In Russia, this sport is still poorly developed, but some of our compatriots have already achieved fairly high results.

Results of the Vancouver Olympics in snowboarding

At the last Olympic Games, Russian Stanislav Detkov took fourth place in the giant slalom competition. Moreover, he had every chance to win a bronze medal, but the gates did not open at the start and our athlete fell, naturally, ultimately showing a worse result compared to his opponent (lagging behind him by 0.96 seconds). If we also take into account that his rival, a Frenchman named Mathieu Bosetto, violated the rules while passing the track, then our Olympic Committee had every reason to file a protest and force a restart. However, for unknown reasons, this protest did not come from the committee, and Stanislav had to be content with a “wooden” medal.

The best snowboarder from the Russian team, Ekaterina Tudegesheva, showed the tenth result at the competition.

Who can join the Russian Olympic snowboard team at the games in Sochi

Of course, the already mentioned Detkov and Tudegesheva will be included in the snowboarding team. Moreover, after Vancouver, Ekaterina won the World Cup twice. This happened in the general classification and in parallel slalom.

Surely Alena Zavarzina will also join our team, who, although she performed unsuccessfully in Vancouver, became the world champion in parallel giant slalom next year.

Brother and sister Andrei and Natalya Sobolev are considered very strong and promising snowboarders. Especially Natalya, who last year took seventh place at the World Championships, and fourth at one of the World Cup stages.

Ekaterina Ilyukhina, a multiple winner and medalist of Russian championships, has a good chance of being included in the national team. And the reserve squad may include a very young (she is only 15 years old), but very promising girl named Christina Paul. The final lists of Olympic participants are not ready yet.
