City motorcycle

City motorcycle- an ideal means of transportation around the metropolis, when the weather permits, of course. And indeed the motorcycle in general. But if you want to buy a motorcycle specifically for everyday driving in traffic jams, then some huge cruiser or radical sportbike will not be the best choice.

If you estimate the requirements for a candidate for the title of a purely urban motorcycle, then the following emerges:

  • Low price. Fans of motorcycling spend a lot of money on their bikes, but if you are looking for utilitarian transport for the summer, then the issue of price is very relevant.
  • Low fuel consumption and inexpensive maintenance. This point logically follows from the previous one.
  • The motorcycle's small dimensions make it easy and stress-free to maneuver in heavy traffic.

Conclusion - the ideal motorcycle for driving around the city would be some kind of “classic” of small or medium cubic capacity. Which one exactly depends on the amount you are willing to spend. If you start with the most affordable options, then a great choice would be.

Small, compact, very light, spare parts and consumables are everywhere in bulk. A universally recognized favorite, it is also very reliable and durable - some owners have driven their YBRs for hundreds of thousands of kilometers, and are still driving them. It’s not for nothing that most motorcycle schools buy these motorcycles. A new YBR 125 will now cost about 80 thousand rubles, but a used one can be bought for 40-50 thousand. In addition, there are a lot of similar Chinese motorcycles, which are cheaper. But the price difference is not too big.

If you want a more serious cubic capacity, and your hands are growing out of the place intended for them by nature, then you can turn your attention to the Japanese “four hundred”, that is, motorcycles with an engine capacity of 400 cubic meters. see. Their disadvantage is that most of the devices are quite old and at the same time the price is not the lowest for 15-20 year old devices. The most popular motorcycle in this class is the Honda CB400.

True, due to its reputation as “the best motorcycle for beginners,” its price is not always friendly to common sense. For 20-year-old copies they sometimes ask for 130-140 thousand rubles, and this is not the limit. At the same time, for a similar motorcycle, but 10 years old, they can ask for exactly the same amount. Pricing on the secondary market is a strange thing...

In addition to the Honda, other 400 cc Japanese classics, such as (pictured) and the Yamaha FZ400, are also popular.

In terms of technical characteristics, most 400cc motorcycles are as similar as twins, so it makes sense to look at different models and buy the bike that is in better condition and costs less money.

If your budget allows you to go all out, then you can look at the fresh 600 cc motorcycles. Of course, not all of them are suitable for the role of a city traffic jam fixer.

Among the budget options, you can pay attention to.

Developed by Italians from the famous Italian company Benelli, bought by the Chinese, and assembled in Russia from Chinese components, this motorcycle meets all modern standards. Being smaller and lighter than most of its classmates, it is equipped with a modern fuel injection system and produces 80 horsepower. This Italian-Russian-Chinese hybrid costs 230-250 thousand rubles, this is the price of a new motorcycle in the showroom.

For the same amount you can look at, for example, the Kawasaki ER6-N. There is also an F-version of this motorcycle, dressed in plastic, but for urban conditions naked (from the English naked - “naked”) will be more convenient.

A new bike costs about 350 thousand, a used one from 200. The Kawasaki inline two produces 72 hp, which is more than enough to feel comfortable in the city.

Also, in terms of driving around the city, relatively new products on our market are interesting - Honda NC700 and Suzuki Gladius. In terms of price, both motorcycles are comparable to the above-mentioned Kawasaki model; if you buy a new motorcycle, used ones will cost a little more, since these are fairly new bikes.

In addition, in the case of the Honda NC700 (pictured above), an option with an automatic robotic gearbox is available. For someone who is not very conservative, this will be a significant plus, especially if you are used to automatic transmission in your car. The NC700's gas tank is located under the seat, and the false tank is equipped with a more spacious trunk.

Suzuki SVF Gladius (see photo above) was also recently launched, but has already acquired a small but dense community of fans, establishing itself as an excellent city motorcycle. It seems quite tall at first glance, but thanks to the competent work of the designers, it subjectively feels very light, and neither the landing nor the handling suffer.

What exactly to choose is up to you, of course, and the choice depends mainly on your budget. But if you are not confident in your abilities, you should probably look at less powerful and expensive models that can become a good “study desk” for you. And when you gain experience, you can always upgrade to something more powerful.
